{"id":5375,"date":"2011-03-01T12:00:17","date_gmt":"2011-03-01T18:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=5375"},"modified":"2011-02-28T22:43:44","modified_gmt":"2011-03-01T04:43:44","slug":"apsu-chamber-singers-tour-tennessee-and-kentucky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2011\/03\/01\/apsu-chamber-singers-tour-tennessee-and-kentucky\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU Chamber Singers Tour Tennessee and Kentucky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-53068\" title=\"The APSU Music Department \" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/APSU-music-200x141.jpg\" alt=\"The APSU Music Department\" width=\"200\" height=\"141\" \/>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; The Chamber Singers, Austin Peay State University\u2019s premiere choral ensemble, is hitting the road this week in order to bring high caliber performances to four communities in Tennessee and Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a free concert, and it allows individuals in those communities to see and experience the fantastic music department at APSU,\u201d Korre Foster, assistant professor of music at APSU and conductor of the ensemble, said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>The Chamber Singers Tour performances and times include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>7:30pm, March 3rd, First United Methodist Church in Hopkinsville, KY.<\/li>\n<li>7:30pm, March 4th, Renaissance Center in Dickson, TN.<\/li>\n<li>7:30pm, March 5th, Grace United Methodist Church, Jackson, TN.<\/li>\n<li>4:30pm, March 6th, First Presbyterian Church, Nashville, TN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The tour allows the ensemble to present new and innovative works not typically performed in those communities. The program for these concerts will feature a wide range of music, with pieces in German, English and French.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe third set is particularly exciting because we are premiering the pieces we commissioned by Sydney Guillaume,\u201d Foster said.<\/p>\n<p>Guillaume, an acclaimed, Haitian-born composer, visited APSU last fall as one of the University\u2019s Acuff Chairs of Excellence. He composed a new work, \u201cF\u00e8t Chanp\u00e8t,\u201d for that visit. The piece, which Foster describes as \u201ca celebration,\u201d pays homage to the carnivals of northern Haiti.<\/p>\n<p>The concert will also include a performance of Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds\u2019 rendition of \u201cAmazing Grace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is simply one of the best arrangements of \u2018Amazing Grace\u2019 out there,\u201d Foster said.<\/p>\n<p>The Chamber Singers tour also serves as a recruiting tool for the APSU Department of Music.
