\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – His reputation as a resolute defender of the environment that stems from a litany of successful legal actions, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be the special guest speaker for the annual Unity Celebration at Austin Peay State University.<\/p>\n

Kennedy will speak at 7:00pm, Wednesday, March 2nd in the Memorial Health Gym (Red Barn) on APSU\u2019s main campus as part of the annual Student Affairs Unity Celebration. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Kennedy was named one of Time magazine\u2019s \u201cHeroes for the Planet\u201d for his success in helping New York\u2019s environmental clean water advocacy group, Riverkeeper, lead the fight to restore the Hudson River. The group\u2019s achievement helped spawn more than 160 Waterkeeper organizations throughout the world.<\/p>\n

Senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, Kennedy also is chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and president of Waterkeeper Alliance. In addition, he is a clinical professor and supervising attorney at Pace University School of Law\u2019s Environmental Litigation Clinic and is co-host of \u201cRing of Fire\u201d on Air America Radio. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant district attorney in New York City.<\/p>\n

Among Kennedy\u2019s published books are the New York Times best-seller \u201cCrimes Against Nature\u201d (2004); \u201cThe Riverkeepers\u201d (1997); and \u201cJudge Frank M. Johnson Jr.: A Biography\u201d (1977).<\/p>\n

His articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, The Nation, Outside magazine, the Village Voice and many other publications.<\/p>\n

Kennedy is a graduate of Harvard University. He studied at the London School of Economics and received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School. After graduation, he attended Pace University School of Law, where he was awarded a master\u2019s degree in environmental law.<\/p>\n
