{"id":3755,"date":"2010-08-31T13:00:57","date_gmt":"2010-08-31T18:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=3755"},"modified":"2010-08-31T10:27:02","modified_gmt":"2010-08-31T15:27:02","slug":"apsu-professor-to-discuss-israel-and-counterterrorism-at-public-lecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2010\/08\/31\/apsu-professor-to-discuss-israel-and-counterterrorism-at-public-lecture\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU Professor to Discuss Israel and Counterterrorism at Public Lecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-40069\" title=\"Austin Peay State University\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/apsu-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University\" width=\"107\" height=\"81\" \/>Austin Peay State University assistant professor of history Dr. Christos Frentzos will deliver a public lecture on Israel and counterterrorism at 4:00pm, September 30th, in the campus\u2019 Gentry Auditorium, located in the Kimbrough Building.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture, sponsored by the APSU Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, will focus on Frentzos\u2019 experiences this summer when he spent 10 days in Israel as part of a counterterrorism fellowship.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>During his visit, the APSU professor met convicted terrorists, attended lectures by Israeli defense officials and visited undercover police units in undisclosed locations.<\/p>\n<p>He watched officers conduct a live ammo demonstration and learned how the Israelis prefer coercion to torture in gathering information.<\/p>\n<p>He also witnessed a simulated operation in which undercover officers would infiltrate an Arab neighborhood and then snatch-and-grab a suspected terrorist.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_39512\" style=\"width: 142px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Dr_Christos_Frentzos.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39512\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-39512\" title=\"Dr. Christos Frentzos\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Dr_Christos_Frentzos-132x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"132\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-39512\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Christos Frentzos<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis fellowship provided a fantastic opportunity for me to really get my feet wet and learn first hand what a democracy, Israel, is doing to combat terrorism,\u201d Frentzos said in June. \u201cWhen you\u2019re a democracy there\u2019s a very difficult path to try and go after people who are using insurgency and terrorism. They don\u2019t play by the rules, yet as a democracy that follows the rule of law, you are expected to follow these rules. It\u2019s very difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lecture is free and open to the public.
