\"AustinTwo upcoming Global Govs Passport Series events at Austin Peay State University will give students and area residents an intimate taste of Japanese culture this fall.<\/p>\n

At 5:00pm on September 28th, the Japanese Consulate in Nashville will host a music and dance performance by the group Global Culture Nasu in the campus\u2019 Music\/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe performers will be in full blown kimonos and playing traditional Japanese instruments,\u201d Dr. David Nelson, assistant professor of history and Asian studies at APSU, said.<\/p>\n

Then on October 29th, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, the famed sushi chef Yanagihara Masahiko will stop by the Morgan University Center, room 303\/305, for a presentation on Japanese cuisine.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s the owner of a Tokyo restaurant, and he\u2019s traveling to several cities in the United States,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cHe\u2019ll be doing a demonstration of preparing Japanese cuisine using local ingredients, with limited samples for the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chartwells, APSU\u2019s dinning services contractor, is generously providing kitchen space for the chef. The demonstration is funded by the Japanese Foundation, a large organization in Japan that promotes Japanese culture abroad.<\/p>\n
