\"TheClarksville, TN<\/strong> – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is located in Historic Downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science, and history.<\/p>\n

Waiting Room: A Print Series by Belgin Yucelen<\/span><\/span><\/strong>

Created by the artist during the 2020 shutdown,<\/span> Waiting Room<\/span> is a print series depicting people in isolation<\/span> and their windows to the outside, beyond reach.<\/span> Originally from Turkey and now based in Colorado, Belgin<\/span> Yucelen\u2019s art remains true to the desire to create meaning and beauty in subtle simplicity.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Elena Bur<\/span>ykina: Brushed Expressions<\/span><\/span><\/strong>

Elena<\/span> Burykina is<\/span> a figurative artist based in Chattanooga. As a child in Ukraine, she received a classical<\/span><\/span> art education which she used for over a decade as an architect. Now as a full<\/span>–<\/span>time artist, her focus is<\/span> portraiture, where she seeks a connection with the model to explore their personalities, moods and thoughts.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Poetry Around Us: Women<\/span> Painting the Outdoors<\/span><\/span><\/strong>

Capturing the bea<\/span>u<\/span>ty of<\/span> the outdoors<\/span> across<\/span> painting<\/span> mediums and<\/span> geographical locations<\/span>,<\/span> t<\/span>his<\/span> invitational<\/span> exhibit features works of art<\/span> from<\/span> more than a dozen<\/span> award<\/span>–<\/span>winning<\/span>, nationa<\/span>l<\/span>l<\/span>y<\/span>–<\/span>recognized<\/span> women artists<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Burt High School operated from 1923 to 1970 and was the only all<\/span>–<\/span>Black high school in Montgomery County,<\/span> serving as a bedrock in the communi<\/span>ty. The SS Clarksville Victory and Her Seagoing Cowboys: Healing the Wounds of War<\/span><\/span><\/strong>

The SS Clarksville Victory, named after the city of Clarksville, Tennessee, made seven trips to Europe after<\/span> World War II delivering livestock to Poland and<\/span> Greece for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation<\/span> Administration (UNRRA). In an illustrated talk, Peggy Reiff Miller will bring to life the story of the men, dubbed<\/span> “seagoing cowboys,” who tended the animals on these voyages. Some of the first civili<\/span>ans to enter Europe<\/span> after the war, their service helped to rebuild a broken world.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The Odyssey of Burt High<\/span> School<\/span> is a celebration of the many teachers<\/span>, community leaders<\/span> and others who<\/span> took great interest in the educational welfare of<\/span> BHS<\/span> students<\/span> as they fought to gain their right to public<\/span> education, and as they strove toward an integrated, unified system of education. Join author Dr. Joe Ann<\/span> Burgess<\/span> for a special presentation and<\/span> recogni<\/span>tion of<\/span> this historic community institution.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n

\"Customs<\/a>Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second-largest general museum. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.<\/p>\n

With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning, and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave!
