(APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>During the presentation, Phillips \u2013 director of laboratory testing at APSU and assistant professor of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/medical-technology\/\" >Medical Laboratory Science<\/a> in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/allied-health\/\" >the APSU Department of Allied Health Sciences<\/a> \u2013 also will talk about influenza types A and B that tend to plague our communities during the winter months.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAccording to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/about\/keyfacts.htm\" >Centers for Disease Control data<\/a>, about 8% of the U.S. population (about 26.5 million people) gets sick from the flu each season, but that number varies up or down. In the 2011-2012 flu season, for example, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/cid\/article\/66\/10\/1511\/4682599?login=true\" >the CDC estimated<\/a> that only about 3% of the population contracted the flu.
