(APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Even so, when people discuss climate change, they often focus on the bad news. Climate scientists, politicians and climate activists, for example, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/11\/16\/un-cop26-climate-summit-what-was-accomplished.html\" >argued that the Glasgow summit resulted in only incremental progress<\/a> toward calming a changing climate.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/biology\/rogers\" >Michelle Rogers<\/a> \u2013 a principal investigator for Austin Peay State University\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/field-biology\/\" >Center of Excellence for Field Biology<\/a> \u2013 wants to focus on the good news. And she will when she discusses climate change at the next Science on Tap at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.saaleworks.com\/upstairs\" >Upstairs at Strawberry Alley Ale Works<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have spent a month making a very purposeful effort to pull together all the most positive things, the best stories \u2013 the things we can look forward to \u2013 and put it all together,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve got things from the international level and national level to some very local stories about things that are good and are coming soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The title of the discussion will be \u201cGood News in Climate and Biodiversity,\u201d and much of the presentation will focus on the good that\u2019s happening here in Montgomery County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClarksville-Montgomery County has really put their money where their mouth is by starting a sustainability board that meets every month to decide how we can be a more sustainable city,\u201d Rogers said. \u201cThat\u2019s huge and really wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogers also has asked several local experts to attend the Science on Tap event to talk to people after the presentation. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dwayne Estes, executive director of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.segrasslands.org\/\" >Southeastern Grasslands Initiative<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>City Councilwoman Karen Reynolds, member of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilledowntownmarket.com\/1128\/Sustainability-Board\" >Clarksville-Montgomery County Sustainability Board.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Carlye Sommers, manager of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/d6.mcgtn.org\/bi-county\/green-certification\" >Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Olivia Herron, coordinator for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/sustainability\/\" >Austin Peay\u2019s sustainability.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Brian Taylor, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cdelightband.com\/\" >CDE Lightband<\/a> general manager.<\/li>\n<li>JoAnn McIntosh, chair of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sierraclub.org\/tennessee\/middle-tennessee\" >Sierra Club Clarksville-Montgomery County<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThere are some good things here too that people may not be aware of, like how many businesses we have \u2013 everything from industry to furniture sales \u2013 that go through a green certification project,\u201d Rogers said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to talking about other local successes, she will discuss successes at the state level (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tectn.org\/tennesseetreeprogram.html\" >the Tennessee Tree Program<\/a> nearing its million tree goal, for example) and the international level, such as the recent climate pact.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers also is hosting a casual climate conversation from 5-7 p.m. the next day, Dec. 8, for people who want a follow-up discussion or \u201cjust want to express their fears and anxieties.\u201d That event also will be at Upstairs at Strawberry Alley Ale Works.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody who feels motivated can come back that following night,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Science on Tap meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month, bringing together two great things: science and local brews.
