\"CustomsClarksville, TN<\/strong> – In 1779, John Donelson set out on a river journey that would lead to the founding of Nashville. Photographer John Guider followed 240 years later, capturing contemporary images of Tennessee\u2019s waters in a boat of his own making.<\/p>\n

Many of these images are now on exhibit at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center in Guider\u2019s exhibit entitled Journeys<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy primary purpose for these travels was to create meaningful images of nature from a perspective not often seen. I didn\u2019t want to see the world from the side of the road or on a path that is readily walked,\u201d Guider explains. \u201cI wanted to celebrate the water as the source of all life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Voyage of Adventure: Retracing Donelson\u2019s Journey<\/p><\/div>\n

Along with the collection of photographs documenting his experience, a Midsouth Regional Emmy Award winning NPT documentary was also produced to showcase the riverboat trip, Voyage of Adventure: Retracing Donelson\u2019s Journey<\/em>. The Museum will host a special screening of the film with a Q&A session featuring John Guider and Jeff Sellers, Director of Education & Community Engagement at the Tennessee State Museum.<\/p>\n

Join Guider and Sellers at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center on December 5th, 2021 from 2:00pm-4:00pm for this unique opportunity to interact with an exhibiting artist and experience his work in a thoughtful way.<\/p>\n

This event is free with Museum membership or paid admission.    <\/p>\n

About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n

\"Customs<\/a>Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second-largest general museum. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.<\/p>\n

With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
