A Celebration of Racing in Montgomery County&#8221; exhibit at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Many types of racing vehicles will rotate throughout the Museum for the duration of the exhibit; check out the famed No. 9 NASCAR stock car driven by Kasey Kahne, Barry Carpenter\u2019s epic 1968 drag rail, Mickey Jerles\u2019 prized late-model crate, and many more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis exhibition has morphed and grown over time since its inception \u2013 like our city,\u201d said Terri Jordan, Curator of Exhibits. \u201cWe are thrilled to bring an exhibition to the public featuring an iconic and historic location in Clarksville \u2013 the Clarksville Speedway and Fairgrounds \u2013 and the stories, artifacts, and memories of its family, its patrons, the pit crews, and drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_531520\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Start-Your-Engines-A-Celebration-of-Racing-in-Montgomery-County-exhibit-3.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-531520\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-531520\" title=\"&quot;Start Your Engines! A Celebration of Racing in Montgomery County&#8221; exhibit at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Additionally, a three-part documentary series was produced by Goodwin Productions for CDE Lightband\u2019s Clarksville Community Network, complete with interviews from local drivers, track owners, and racing influencers. A commemorative magazine with more in-depth features accompanies the exhibit and is available for purchase at Seasons: The Museum Store.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[470center]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is one of the largest exhibits produced by the Museum in 15 years,\u201d explained Executive Director Frank Lott. \u201cHundreds of hours of video interviews, site visits with race car owners and drivers, filming races at the drag strip and dirt oval track, researching and writing story drafts, and scrolling through dozens of scrapbooks were all required to make this exhibit happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Start Your Engines! The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.<\/p>\n<p>With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n<p>The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays.
