\"CustomsClarksville, TN<\/strong> – During the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center\u2019s Grand Illumination lighting event held on October 3rd, 2020, Executive Director Frank Lott had a special announcement for those in attendance.<\/p>\n

The Downtown Kiwanis Club of Clarksville has pledged $150,000 for the renovation of the Museum\u2019s children\u2019s area known as Explorers\u2019 Landing.<\/p>\n

Explorers\u2019 Landing is a popular Museum feature that includes the interactive Bubble Cave, miniature McGregor\u2019s Market and space for play and exploration.<\/p>\n

Explorers\u2019 Landing, then known as Explorers\u2019 Floor, opened in the early 1990s and has been visited by tens of thousands of children throughout the years. While many changes have occurred since then, the space has been overdue for a major remodel, and the Kiwanis Club has stepped up to sponsor the redesign project.<\/p>\n

The Downtown Kiwanis Club of Clarksville is a community service-focused club that formed in 1920. Through the years, the club has emphasized community service towards young children. The Kiwanis Club is no stranger to the Customs House Museum. In 2018, the club sponsored the Museum\u2019s creator-friendly Family Art Studio.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Downtown Kiwanis Club of Clarksville\u2019s mission aligns with the Museum\u2019s in that we emphasize children\u2019s learning and exploration,\u201d Lott says. \u201cWe are grateful and delighted to have a sponsor that is a dedicated supporter of the Museum.\u201d<\/p>\n

Renovation plans are underway with the expectation that the newly remodeled Explorers\u2019 Landing will open by the end of 2021. The current Explorers\u2019 Landing area will remain open throughout the remodeling process until much later in the project.  <\/p>\n

About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n

\"Customs<\/a>Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.<\/p>\n

With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
