(APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2011, Barry Kitterman, author and APSU professor of languages and literature, published his short story collection, \u201cFrom the San Joaquin,\u201d through Southern Methodist University Press.<\/p>\n<p>The 13 loosely connected stories delved into the everyday lives and struggles of regular people living in the San Joaquin Valley in California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are sturdy, no-nonsense, character-driven stories that make turning the pages a necessity as a well as a pleasure,\u201d Steve Yarbrough, author of \u201cSafe from the Neighbors,\u201d said. \u201cKitterman\u2019s book is superb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the years passed, Kitterman began thinking of turning the collection into an audiobook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father is still alive, though he has been blind for quite a few years, and I\u2019ve wanted to make the stories available to him for a long time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_502998\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/APSU-Talon-Beeson.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-502998\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-502998\" title=\"Austin Peay State University associate professor of theatre and dance Talon Beeson. (APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>That\u2019s what led Kitterman to Talon Beeson, APSU associate professor of theatre and dance. Beeson is a well-known voice actor and author of \u201cStarting Your Career In Voice-Overs.\u201d The two professors decided to collaborate on a project that would provide students with real-world experience while also helping out their departments.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, a diverse group of Austin Peay State University students narrated 12 stories from Kitterman\u2019s collection. The project stalled in the spring because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but since recordings could be made anywhere, the students and professors soon resumed their work.
