{"id":28883,"date":"2020-07-13T05:30:04","date_gmt":"2020-07-13T10:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=28883"},"modified":"2020-07-12T23:06:42","modified_gmt":"2020-07-13T04:06:42","slug":"clarksville-downtown-parking-changes-proposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2020\/07\/13\/clarksville-downtown-parking-changes-proposed\/","title":{"rendered":"Clarksville Downtown Parking Changes Proposed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-460783\" title=\"City of Clarksville\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/City-of-Clarksville-2.jpg\" alt=\"City of Clarksville\" width=\"260\" height=\"72\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Downtown merchants and property owners gathered Wednesday to hear City of Clarksville officials and consultants from Premier Parking outline potential changes to on-street metered parking in Downtown Clarksville.<\/p>\n<p>City officials said the changes would create a more consumer friendly approach to downtown parking and overcome some of the current system\u2019s equipment and enforcement challenges.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_376718\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Downtown-Clarksville-Parking-Lot.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-376718\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-376718\" title=\"Clarksville to increase Downtown Parking Rates by 50 cents an hour on April 1st, 2017.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Downtown-Clarksville-Parking-Lot-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"Clarksville to increase Downtown Parking Rates by 50 cents an hour on April 1st, 2017.\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-376718\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clarksville to increase Downtown Parking Rates by 50 cents an hour on April 1st, 2017.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>The plan discussed includes:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Deactivating all parking sensors, and making downtown parking a \u201cpay to play\u201d environment.<\/li>\n<li>A 25-cent payment will be required at all meters to start a downtown parking session.<\/li>\n<li>The first 25 cents provides 15 minutes of parking time and one hour of courtesy time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>The proposal calls for two types of payment structures at street meters:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>One-hour of courtesy time with parking sessions limited to 3 hours on Strawberry Alley, Franklin Street and Third Street.<\/li>\n<li>One-hour of courtesy time with parking sessions limited to 8 hours on First and Second streets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In discussion, some property owners said the meters on First and Second streets between Main and Commerce streets should be limited to 3 hours, and not expanded to 8 hour maximums.<\/p>\n<p>Another commenter noted that the start of work on Montgomery County\u2019s Multipurpose Events Center will complicate downtown parking and that plans should be made to accommodate inevitable construction-related parking.<\/p>\n<p>The Parking Commission will meet next at 3:00pm July 30th, 2020.
