(APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The awards were announced April 20th in the virtual gallery, complete with a virtual reception, balloons and ribbons for the award winners.<\/p>\n<p>The APSU Department of Art + Design recognized the following students and their respective awards.<\/p>\n<h4>These were awarded by this year\u2019s juror, Hallie Ringle, the Hugh Kahul Curator of Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art:&nbsp;<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Best in Show \u2013 Rei Miller, <em>Natsukashii 5<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The Bruce Child\u2019s Printmaking Award \u2013 Kathryn Papenfuss, <em>Ghost of a Maple<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The T. Max Hochstetler Painting Award \u2013 Uyanga Ganzorig, <em>Wave in My Mind<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The Olen Bryant Sculpture Award \u2013 Jeremey Vega, <em>Rubber Bands<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Jim Diehr Ceramics Award \u2013 Sarah Potter, <em>Shapely<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Charles Young Drawing Award \u2013 Dulce DelaRosa, <em>Googly-eyed Ghost &amp; Friends<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Becky Hall Photography Award \u2013 Payton VanHook, <em>Out of Place #1<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Betty Holte New Media Award \u2013 Paul Gibson, <em>Rain<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Philancy Holder Graphic Design Award \u2013 Elissa Burgoyne, <em>Antwaun Sargent Poster<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Plaza Art Supplies Foundations Award (2) \u2013 Jolandra Townsend, <em>Toussaint L\u2019Ouverture<\/em>; Kori Pegram.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cMuch like the rest of the country, this is a challenging time for all of us,\u201d reads a statement from the department. \u201cFor our department, April is the month in the academic year that we get together with the community to celebrate the work of our students with our annual juried exhibition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Art + Design at Austin Peay State University is proud of our students and, in this time of social-distancing, wants to reward our outstanding student artists for their hard work and creativity,\u201d the statement continues. \u201cThat\u2019s why our gallery director, Michael Dickins, worked to find a way to present the work virtually.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By using ArtSteps, an online gallery generator, Dickins was able to create a virtual gallery showcasing the work that was selected for this year\u2019s exhibition. The exhibition can be entered through the APSU Department of Art + Design\u2019s website: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/art-design\" >www.apsu.edu\/art-design<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 52nd Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition is professionally juried from outside Austin Peay State University, emulating the practice of real-world art shows. The exhibition showcases the best artwork produced by students during the past year and gives students the opportunity to participate in a professional exhibition where a qualified juror selects artwork and artistic merit awards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[320left]This year\u2019s juror was Hallie Ringle. Hallie Ringle<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>is the Hugh Kahul Curator of Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art where she\u2019s curated&nbsp;<em>Celestia Morgan: REDLINE&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>Barbie: Dreaming of a Female Future<\/em>. She was formerly&nbsp;Assistant Curator at The Studio Museum in Harlem where she curated&nbsp;<em>Maren Hassinger: Monuments<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Firelei&nbsp;Baez: Joy Out of&nbsp;Fire<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Fictions<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Rico&nbsp;Gatson: Icons 2007\u20132017, Video Studio: Meeting Points<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Palatable: Food and Contemporary Art<\/em>, and&nbsp;<em>Salon Style<\/em>.
