The presenter will \u201cshare something from the arts that they turn to during times of anxiety, something that gives them hope and helps them navigate turbulent waters.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jones took the first turn on Monday, sharing one of his favorite musical works, Miles Davis\u2019s 1959 studio album \u201cKind of Blue.\u201d You can see Jones\u2019 video <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=V1yx70a4aU4\" >here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Upcoming \u201cWe Can\u2019t Make It Without the Arts\u201d episodes will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/directory\/faculty\/spofforda.php\" > Andrea Spofford<\/a>, Austin Peay State University Department of Languages and Literature, discussing science fiction as a form of escape.<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/music\/facstaff\/williamsj.php\" > Jeffrey Williams<\/a>, Austin Peay State University Department of Music, singing and discussing Vincent Youmans\u2019 \u201cWithout a Song.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/directory\/faculty\/sikesm.php\" > Maris Sikes<\/a>, Austin Peay State University Languages and Literature, talking about Toni Morrison\u2019s \u201cBeloved\u201d and \u201cSong of Solomon.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/art-design\/faculty\/dixie-webb\/webb.php\" > Dixie Webb<\/a>, APSU Department of Art + Design, discussing quilts and quilt-making.<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/directory\/faculty\/cannonm.php\" > Mercy Cannon<\/a>, APSU Languages and Literature, talking about plague literature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The impact the arts have on our lives&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<p>The idea of the videos was inspired by a suggestion from Dr. Tim Hudson, executive director of the Center for Extended and International Education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said it better than I can: \u2018Our constituents, colleagues and students could benefit from some sort of connection to the power, depth of reflection and context only available from the arts,\u2019\u201d Jones recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Jones accepted the challenge and asked for volunteers to create videos \u201cduring this incredibly difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents will get to see faculty share works that are very important to them personally and to see that we are also searching for ways to cope during this pandemic,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jones noted the power of the arts during hard times already is evident.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[320left]\u201cWith the free online concerts taking place, movie studios releasing films direct to streaming and visual artists sharing their work on Instagram and other platforms, we are currently seeing the substantial and concrete impact that the arts have on our lives,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jones closed his video on a hopeful note.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWonderful and important scientists, doctors, political leaders and others will solve the coronavirus problem, but until then I have Miles Davis.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>To learn more&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The College of Arts and Letters (CoAL) YouTube channel is at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=V1yx70a4aU4\" >www.youtube.com\/watch?v=V1yx70a4aU4<\/a><\/li>\n<li>To learn more about the College of Arts and Letters, go to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/coal\/\" >www.apsu.edu\/coal<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Clarksville, TN &#8211;
