The group of employees and well-wishers gathered for breakfast and awards Monday, March 9th, 2020 at the Wilma Rudolph Events Center at Liberty Park. Eighteen workers received \u201cMayor\u2019s Shining Star\u201d awards, and another 72 received \u201cMayor\u2019s Rising Star\u201d honors.<\/p>\n

Mayor Pitts said “Cause for Applause\u201d was designed to recognize and encourage outstanding job performance and exceptional delivery of city services by employees.<\/p>\n

City of Clarksville Department leaders nominated award recipients from their teams based on superior performance, outstanding customer service, increasing morale, volunteering for special projects and other factors.<\/p>\n

Denise Johnson, Human Resources Analyst, was one of 18 \u201cShining Stars\u201d honored Monday as part of the City of Clarksville\u2019s \u201cCause for Applause\u201d employee recognition program. She accepts congratulations from Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and First Lady Cynthia Pitts during the breakfast event at the Wilma Rudolph Events Center.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cI want to thank you and express my gratitude for all you do for our citizens,\u201d Mayor Pitts said. \u201cThere\u2019s a famous quote (from the Roman orator Cicero) that sums it up well. \u2018Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

Chief of Staff James Halford, who was the architect of the program, said \u201cCause for Applause\u201d will become an annual event, which will add an even higher award next year — the \u201cMayor\u2019s Superstar\u201d award.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou all have earned this recognition,\u201d Halford told the honorees. \u201cAnd we truly believe it\u2019s what you do that makes Clarksville the best city in America to live.\u201d<\/p>\n

[320left]Circuit Court Judge Katy Olita gave the keynote address and congratulated the high-achievers, urging them to embrace the emotions that can accompany career ambition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a history of being uncomfortable,\u201d Judge Olita told the crowd. \u201cAt each major new step in my career, I had that feeling of hearing my heart beating in my chest, of being slightly terrified. But I learned to embrace it. So go ahead and be uncomfortable, because that\u2019s where the good stuff happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Awardees enjoyed a catered breakfast and received a pin, a certificate, a custom water bottle and perks like front-of-the-line access at the Mayor\u2019s Christmas Breakfast, and reserved Riverfest parking.<\/p>\n
