{"id":28564,"date":"2020-03-10T05:30:30","date_gmt":"2020-03-10T10:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=28564"},"modified":"2020-03-10T01:10:55","modified_gmt":"2020-03-10T06:10:55","slug":"apsu-coordinates-campus-response-to-last-weeks-violent-storms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2020\/03\/10\/apsu-coordinates-campus-response-to-last-weeks-violent-storms\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU coordinates campus response to last week\u2019s violent storms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-324279\" title=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Austin-Peay-State-University-APSU.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" width=\"250\" height=\"64\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Last week, after several devastating storms and tornadoes moved through the Middle Tennessee area, members of the Austin Peay State University (APSU) community began reaching out to the students, faculty and staff who live in those counties.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_483878\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Austin-Peay-State-University-coordinates-campus-response-to-last-week\u2019s-violent-storms.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-483878\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-483878\" title=\"Tennessee Governor Bill Lee surveys recent tornado damage.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Austin-Peay-State-University-coordinates-campus-response-to-last-week\u2019s-violent-storms-480x240.jpg\" alt=\"Tennessee Governor Bill Lee surveys recent tornado damage.\" width=\"480\" height=\"240\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-483878\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tennessee Governor Bill Lee surveys recent tornado damage.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we don\u2019t know how many members of our campus community were directly affected, more than 580 Austin Peay State University students and 100 employees have homes in those counties affected by Tuesday morning\u2019s severe storms,\u201d APSU President Alisa White said in a message to campus.<\/p>\n<p>With so many people potentially affected and others wanting to help, the University\u2019s Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement developed a Disaster Response that coordinates the University\u2019s efforts and provides campus resources for those in need.<\/p>\n<p>The plan, which is available at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apsu.edu\/volunteer\/disaster-response\" >https:\/\/apsu.edu\/volunteer\/disaster-response<\/a>, provides a list of campus resources, including the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apsu.edu\/volunteer\/sos-food-pantry\/index.php\" >Save Our Students (SOS) Food Pantry<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apsu.edu\/health-and-counseling\/counseling\/index.php\" >APSU Counseling Services<\/a> and the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apsu.edu\/volunteer\/sos-food-pantry\/sosfunds.php\" >Student SOS emergency Funds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re a student touched by this tragedy, please reach out to the Dean of Students so Dean (Greg) Singleton\u2019s office can assist you in contacting your professors,\u201d White said in her email. \u201cProvost Rex Gandy is working with our faculty to help them appropriately respond to any situations caused by these storms, such as making accommodations for assignments, testing and class attendance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re a faculty or staff member impacted by this event, please contact the Office of Human Resources to see about alternate work schedules or other arrangements you may need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;The plan also provides information on how to help, including organizations that are looking for volunteers \u2013 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hon.org\/opportunity\/a0C1H00001asG2t\" >Hands On Nashville<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/sbp.formstack.com\/forms\/nashville_recovery\" >SBP<\/a>, Mt.
