\u201cAbels is a Clarksville resident and friend of the APSU Department of Art + Design who works with major film, TV and animation studios such as Walt Disney Animation Studios, Rhythm and Hues and Nemesis Collective,\u201d Michael Dickins, chair of the Visiting Artist Speaker Committee, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is credited on such films and TV series as \u2018Frozen II,\u2019 \u2018Deadpool,\u2019 \u2018Game of Thrones,\u2019 \u2018A Series of Unfortunate Events,\u2019 \u2018Zootopia,\u2019 \u2018Django Unchained,\u2019 \u2018300: Rise of an Empire\u2019 and \u2018Moana.\u2019 We are really excited for her visit as she will give an artist lecture on her creative practice and her life and career as a sought after, award-winning, Hollywood matte painter,\u201d stated Dickins.<\/p>\n

Abels\u2019 lecture \u2013 which is free and open to the public \u2013 is at 6:00pm Wednesday, February 26th, 2020 in the Trahern Theatre, located in the Trahern building at Austin Peay State University. All ages are welcome. <\/p>\n

\u2018The Vagina Monologues\u2019 to raise money for sexual assault center <\/h3>\n
\"\u201cThe<\/a>

\u201cThe Vagina Monologues,\u201d to be performed at Austin Peay State University on February 26th and February 28th, 2020.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Austin Peay State University Women\u2019s and Gender Studies Program and the APSU Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance will host the 19th<\/sup> annual production of Eve Ensler\u2019s award-winning play, \u201cThe Vagina Monologues,\u201d at 7:00pm on February 26th and February 28th, in the University\u2019s Clement Auditorium.  <\/p>\n

The annual production is part of the international VDAY campaign to raise awareness about violence against women and girls and money to fund agencies that support survivors of interpersonal violence.<\/p>\n

[320left]This year, Austin Peay State University\u2019s production will feature the monologues \u201cThe Man Prayer\u201d and \u201cRespect.\u201d \u201cThe Man Prayer,\u201d which will be performed by APSU male students, defines masculinity in new terms \u2014 terms that do not rely on conquest and subjugation to represent men\u2019s power. \u201cRespect,\u201d which is written in honor of Aretha Franklin, highlights the struggles of black women in American society. This monologue takes a historical look at all that black women have endured.<\/p>\n

The money raised from the two performances will be donated to Clarksville\u2019s Sexual Assault Center and the Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee. <\/p>\n

Basketball-focused \u2018Spectacle\u2019 exhibit opens<\/h3>\n

The New Gallery at Austin Peay State University, with support from The APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art + Design, is pleased to present Spectacle <\/em>to continue an exciting 2019-2020 exhibition season. <\/p>\n

\u201cSpectacle<\/em> is an exhibition that combines basketball and visual culture. It\u2019s a three-person show that features the work of Brandon Donahue, Vesna Pavlovi\u0107 and Chris Boyd Taylor,\u201d Michael Dickins, curator and director of The New Gallery, said. <\/p>\n

[320right]The exhibit opens Monday, February 24th, at The New Gallery in the Art + Design building at Austin Peay State University and runs through March 27th. The three artists, the curator and sportswriter Brandon Vogel \u2013 who wrote the exhibition essay for Spectacle \u2013 will participate in a panel discussion at 6:00pm March 18th in Heydel Hall of the APSU Art + Design building.<\/p>\n

A reception is scheduled from noon to 1:00pm on March 19th with a brief gallery talk by the curator and artists at 12:15pm. <\/p>\n

All events are free and open to the public. <\/p>\n

APSU Govs men\u2019s basketball finishes against Morehead, Murray<\/h3>\n

The Governors lost a heartbreaker to Eastern Illinois on Saturday and are looking to rebound when they host Morehead State for Senior Night on Thursday, February 27th, at the Winfield Dunn Center. The game will tip off following the women\u2019s game, which starts at 5:30pm. The women also lost a heartbreaker to Eastern Illinois on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s team is tied for first in the Ohio Valley Conference with Belmont and Murray State, who the Govs play in Murray, Kentucky, at 7:00pm Saturday, February 29th. The women also finish at Murray at 5:00pm Saturday, February 29th. <\/p>\n

Get your taxes done for free<\/h3>\n

Austin Peay State University\u2019s College of Business is looking to ease some of that stress by providing free tax preparation through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The program is open to anyone with an annual income of $56,000 or less, individuals with disabilities or Spanish speakers with limited English skills. <\/p>\n

For the last three years, Austin Peay State University has offered the VITA program as part of a service-learning course that provides an important community service while also giving APSU accounting students practical, real-world experience. The students in Business Professor Jennifer Thayer\u2019s class are all IRS-certified volunteers who spent the winter months preparing for the VITA program. <\/p>\n

The VITA program has 31 student volunteers ready to serve members of the community at 322 Home Avenue, home of the APSU Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement. Appointments can be made by calling 931.221.6590, but walk-ins are welcome. Students will offer tax preparation from 1:00pm-7:00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10:00am-4:00pm on Saturdays. The VITA program will remain open (except for the week of March 8th-14th, which is spring break) until the final tax-filing day on April 15th. <\/p>\n
