\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – On October 29th, 2019, shortly after sunset, several unsavory characters \u2013 including Darth Vader, Michael Myers and that notorious foodie, Hannibal Lecter \u2013 will descend upon the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Mabry Concert Hall to unleash their ominous theme music onto a crowd of eager listeners.<\/p>\n

That evening, the Austin Peay State University\u2019s Department of Music will host the 35th<\/sup> annual performance of its wildly popular Percussion Ensemble Halloween Concert, with this year\u2019s program spotlighting some of pop culture\u2019s biggest bad guys.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis one is all about the villains,\u201d David Steinquest, APSU professor of music, said. \u201cPretty much everything has to do with bad guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Tuesday night concert will open with music from the \u201cHalloween\u201d movies, and then move into works such as Bach\u2019s \u201cGoldberg Variation No. 25,\u201d which was used in the \u201cSilence of the Lambs,\u201d and \u201cThe Imperial March\u201d from \u201cStar Wars.\u201d Later, another famed villain will make his way to the stage, with APSU music professor Jeffrey Williams singing the lead role from Andrew Lloyd Webber\u2019s \u201cThe Phantom of the Opera.\u201d<\/p>\n

The evening\u2019s eclectic program will also feature Igor Stravinsky\u2019s \u201cTriumphal March of the Devil,\u201d German composer Engelbert Humperdinck\u2019s \u201cEvening Prayer\u201d from his opera \u201cHansel and Gretel,\u201d and the theme song from the popular 1966 television show, \u201cMission Impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

For more than three decades, Steinquest and his musical minions have ushered in the October holiday with this madcap concert, featuring student musicians in Halloween costumes and an eerily decorated Mabry Concert Hall.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be special lighting effects, and the communication department will provide a live feed video on the back screen giving the event an exciting rock concert vibe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The event\u2019s popularity over the years prompted the music department to add a second performance, with this year\u2019s concerts set for 6:00pm and 8:00pm on October 29th. Admission to the Halloween concert is two cans of food, which will be donated to Loaves and Fishes, or $5.00. Tickets go on sale October 16th, and the event usually sells out. For tickets, drop off the cans of food at the music office, Room 139 of the APSU Music\/Mass Communication Building, or purchase them online at Google AP marketplace.<\/p>\n
