\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – If you were born after 1993 \u2013 which is the case for most Austin Peay State University (APSU) students \u2013 then you\u2019ve only known a world where the United Kingdom is a part of the European Union (EU).<\/p>\n

That fact can seem trivial, especially if you\u2019re living 4,000 miles away in Tennessee, so when Great Britain announced it would be the first country to leave the EU \u2013 a move known as \u201cBrexit\u201d \u2013 many people on campus and in the Clarksville area reacted with mild curiosity.<\/p>\n

Austin Peay will hold a special panel discussion in the campus\u2019 Honors Commons to help educate the local community on Brexit\u2019s potentially global impact. (APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n

Their questions ranged from \u201cWhat exactly is the European Union?\u201d to \u201cWhy should I care?\u201d<\/p>\n

At 5:00pm on October 22nd, Austin Peay State University\u2019s Honors Program and APSU\u2019s President\u2019s Emerging Leaders Program (PELP) will host a special panel discussion in the campus\u2019 Honors Commons to help educate the local community on Brexit\u2019s potentially global impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many questions that arise out of this event,\u201d Dr. Tim Winters, PELP director, said. \u201cOur students, and I daresay some faculty as well, are not fully comfortable with the parliamentary system of democratic government. Such ideas as snap elections and dissolving the government are so different from our experience as to demand explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The panel discussion, which is open to the public, is designed to provide attendees with an understanding of how and why Brexit has occurred, and what effect it will have on Europe and the rest of the world.<\/p>\n
