\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – Austin Peay State University (APSU) former student Calvin E. Lockett has joined Gwen Stefani\u2019s team on NBC\u2019s hit singing competition \u201cThe Voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lockett, age 25, wowed the judges as he sang the Temptations\u2019 classic \u201cJust My Imagination\u201d during the Sept. 30 airing of the show. Judges Blake Shelton, John Legend and Stefani hit their buzzers seconds into the song during the blind audition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so glad you\u2019re on this show because your voice is so good, it\u2019s so relaxing,\u201d Stefani said. \u201cI\u2019m a fan of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Legend added, \u201cWhat I loved about your version, it was so subtle, so in control, and your tone, I haven\u2019t really heard anyone sound like you before.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was really a masterful performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelton agreed: \u201cI can\u2019t think of anybody else who sounds like this guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelton assumed Lockett was going to pick Legend\u2019s team and told Legend, \u201cI hope that when this season is over with that you make a record on that guy right there because I can guarantee you you\u2019ll go on to be a star and have a hit album.\u201d<\/p>\n

Judge Kelly Clarkson asked Lockett what kind of record he wanted to make.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the kind of music I make is singer-songwriter, R&B,\u201d Lockett said. \u201cThis is a mind-blowing experience, I\u2019m just kind of shaking right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

[320left]In an interview with \u201cThe Voice\u201d after the performance, Lockett said he wanted to audition to \u201cexpand my reach. My background is in the church, and sometimes your reach can stay within those four walls if you want it to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lockett is the son of Lynnita and Calvin Lockett, pastors at Christ The Healer Church in Clarksville. They were stageside during the audition.<\/p>\n

Lockett said he sang his first solo at church when he was 13. Lockett\u2019s bio at nbc.com\/the-voice says he started writing music with like-minded artists in college.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning \u2018The Voice\u2019 would mean a lot, it would mean a lot to my family,\u201d he said after his audition. \u201cFor my family and back home, it would mean a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n
