The Austin Peay State University (APSU) professor had traveled more than 6,000 miles to visit the school, and with the small jolt of caffeine spurring her on, she helped develop a new relationship between her home campus and the Jordanian university.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_463741\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/APSU\u2019s-Eriksson-College-of-Education-developing-relationship-with-Jordan\u2019s-Yarmouk-University-1.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-463741\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-463741\" title=\"Austin Peay State University's Dr. Christman met with Yarmouk University administrators this summer. (APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said they were interested in research collaborations with our faculty, and they\u2019d also like to send a student to our Ed.D. program, so we\u2019re now working with them on that,\u201d Christman said.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Yarmouk\u2019s vice president for financial business and scientific colleges instructed his colleagues to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Austin Peay State University.<\/p>\n<p>Christman is now working with Dr. Chad Brooks, APSU associate provost for research and dean of the College of Graduate Studies, on a similar agreement that will make it easier for faculty and students to move between the two schools.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_463743\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/APSU\u2019s-Eriksson-College-of-Education-developing-relationship-with-Jordan\u2019s-Yarmouk-University-2.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-463743\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-463743\" title=\"Dr. Christman visited a former doctoral student now working as a professor in Jordan. (APSU)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Brooks said a potential scholar exchange program could provide new opportunities for Austin Peay State University\u2019s professors while also allowing the University\u2019s students to engage with international faculty and scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAustin Peay is in the business of producing global citizens, and MOUs like this one bring more value to an amazing campus community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Christman\u2019s July trip to Jordan was part of an informal fact-finding mission, allowing her to connect with one of the top universities in the Middle East and North Africa, but it also represented the APSU Eriksson College of Education\u2019s recent push for stronger international partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>[320left]In the last year, the college has developed ties with several educational programs in China, hosting a delegation of Chinese kindergarten teachers last February and sending APSU faculty and students to Beijing and Mongolia earlier this summer.<\/p>\n<p>It was within the college\u2019s new culture of international education that Christman saw an opportunity. She arrived at Austin Peay State University last year from New Mexico State University to teach in and help build the University\u2019s first doctoral program, the Doctor of Education in educational leadership.<\/p>\n<p>As summer approached, she remembered that one of her former doctoral students from New Mexico was now teaching at Yarmouk. Christman approached Dr. Prentice Chandler, dean of the Eriksson College of Education, about reaching out to the Jordanian university.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did this informally, but Dean Chandler has been extremely supportive of this,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I felt it was really successful.
