Customs House Museum and Cultural Center<\/h2>\n

\"Clarksville'sClarksville, TN<\/strong> – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center Crouch Gallery is home to the serene, organic sculptures of local artist and teacher Mike Andrews.<\/p>\n

On view through May 5th, the show, titled A New Vision, includes over forty pieces made of wood, limestone, or alabaster.<\/p>\n

Large figurative pieces like Theologian hold court across the gallery floor, while smaller sculptures, like James and Kay and Windblown float along the walls with dancing shadows.<\/p>\n

The influence of the artist\u2019s mentor, the late Olen Bryant, can be seen in many of the figurative works displayed. Upon the title wall sits The Master, paying homage to the well known sculptor.<\/p>\n

Andrews states \u201cThis show is dedicated to my dear friend and mentor Olen Bryant. I was a student of Olen\u2019s from 1980 to 1985 and worked as a studio assistant for him from 1982 to 1992. Olen became more than a teacher for me he was part of my family my son Michael worked for him the last 10 plus years of his life and he treated my daughter Sarah and youngest son Josh like they were part of his family. Elaine my wife and I miss him greatly and feel blessed to have known such a kind and gentle soul. He truly is a Tennessee treasure\u201d.<\/p>\n

Along with the sculptures, the exhibit includes a film and works by some of Andrews students. In 2014 Mike received the Artist of the Year Ovation Award from the Center for the Creative arts at APSU.<\/p>\n

His work has been throughout the region and is represented in private collections from California to Washing DC and abroad. His sculptures can be found in collections throughout Tennessee including Vanderbilt University, the White House Public Library, the Nashville International Airport, Austin Peay State University, and The Ronald McDonald House.<\/p>\n

About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n

\"Customs<\/a>Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.<\/p>\n

With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
