Austin Peay State University (APSU) <\/h2>\n

\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – Austin Peay State University (APSU) welcomed more than 700 third-grade students from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) in an effort to introduce the children to higher education opportunities and their local college campus.<\/p>\n

More than 700 Clarksville-Montgomery County School System third-graders visited Austin Peay State University recently on \u201cReady to Gov\u201d Day to introduce the children to higher education and to their local university campus.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The theme of the day was \u201cReady to Gov in 2028!\u201d The goal was to get elementary-aged children thinking about college and what they aspire to be.<\/p>\n

The event also allowed APSU to make a positive impression early in the students\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n

The students began the day with a tour of campus, and they visited several buildings on campus, including the new Art + Design building and the Morgan University Center, where they \u201cloved seeing all the dining options,\u201d Jandro Herrera, associate director of admissions at APSU, said.<\/p>\n

The Austin Peay State University women\u2019s volleyball team capped the day with an intrasquad scrimmage.<\/p><\/div>\n

The students later had lunch and watched an intrasquad women\u2019s volleyball scrimmage at the Dunn Center.<\/p>\n

The Dunn Center\u2019s video board greeted the students when they entered: \u201cWelcome, Class of 2028!\u201d<\/p>\n

[320left]Northeast Elementary School\u2019s Jana Moffett led her class on the tour and was excited her students got to visit a college campus.<\/p>\n

The highlight for the day for Ringgold Elementary School third-graders Arkbel and Liliana was the volleyball game. They rooted for the red team and were excited to learn their teacher, Hannah Oglesbee, attended Austin Peay.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say the best part of the day was hearing the students talk to each other as they were lining up to leave, saying \u2018I can\u2019t wait to come to Austin Peay when we are older,\u2019\u201d Herrera said.<\/p>\n

This was the first year for the event.<\/p>\n
