{"id":26932,"date":"2019-02-28T06:00:05","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T12:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=26932"},"modified":"2019-02-28T03:21:45","modified_gmt":"2019-02-28T09:21:45","slug":"austin-peay-state-university-students-build-relationships-with-students-in-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2019\/02\/28\/austin-peay-state-university-students-build-relationships-with-students-in-japan\/","title":{"rendered":"Austin Peay State University students build relationships with students in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Austin Peay State University (APSU)<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-324279\" title=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Austin-Peay-State-University-APSU.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" width=\"250\" height=\"64\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; On January 24th, 2018, Austin Peay State University, in association with the Consul-General of Japan in Nashville, hosted a delegation of four Japanese citizens visiting Tennessee as part of the \u201cWalk in the U.S., Talk on Japan\u201d program, a key initiative of the Japanese government designed to promote cultural and political awareness of Japan in several major U.S. cities.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_445650\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/APSU-Students-build-relationships-with-Students-in-Japan.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-445650\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-445650\" title=\"Austin Peay State University Students visited with Japanese Students at Kitakamakura.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/APSU-Students-build-relationships-with-Students-in-Japan-480x321.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University Students visited with Japanese Students at Kitakamakura.\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-445650\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Austin Peay State University Students visited with Japanese Students at Kitakamakura.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki, former Japanese ambassador to the United States, provided an informative and engaging presentation to APSU students, administrators, faculty and members of the general public.<\/p>\n<p>After the presentation, Caroline Clasby, APSU director of international student services, learned from Fujisaki that students at Kitakamakura Joshi Gakuen, a girls\u2019 junior and senior high school in Japan, were interested in expanding their international experiences.<\/p>\n<p>On a trip to Japan the following month, Clasby visited the ambassador to discuss opportunities for APSU students.<\/p>\n<p>On May 16th, 2018, 11 Austin Peay students and two faculty members visited Kitakamakura while on a study abroad trip. During this excursion, the APSU students toured the city of Kamakura and visited the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Students from both schools exchanged contact information, and discussed one another\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n<p>On January 23rd, 2019, Consul General Kobayashi, from the Japanese Consulate in Nashville, hosted the APSU students for a lunch reception, where they shared their experiences.
