That morning, she hosted Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts, Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, city council members, county commissioners and APSU administrators and academic deans for an APSU, Clarksville, Montgomery County Partnership meeting.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, the community\u2019s top leaders engaged in a conversation about how all three entities can take advantage of the area\u2019s current momentum.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_445468\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/APSU-hosts-partnership-meeting-with-City-of-Clarksville-Montgomery-County-Leaders-2.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-445468\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-445468\" title=\"APSU President Alisa Whtie addresses the attendees at last Friday's meeting.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/APSU-hosts-partnership-meeting-with-City-of-Clarksville-Montgomery-County-Leaders-2-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"APSU President Alisa Whtie addresses the attendees at last Friday's meeting.\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-445468\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">APSU President Alisa Whtie addresses the attendees at last Friday&#8217;s meeting.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cOur community has never had this much diversity in our leadership ever. Not only in age but in race and in gender, we have never had this before,\u201d Durrett said. \u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever had people in the leadership positions that we\u2019ve had that want to sit down at a table and talk about a problem or create something exciting for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the key takeaways from Friday\u2019s event was the spirit of collaboration. Pitts said it was a priority for the local governments to work with the University over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>[320left]\u201cIf you think about Austin Peay, it\u2019s right in the center of our city, it\u2019s the largest employer of white-collar jobs in our community, so we need to nurture that,\u201d he said. \u201cWe promise we will collaborate with you and we will communicate with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several topics were discussed during the meeting, including the future of the Vulcan factory property at 1151 College St. Durrett, Pitts and White all agreed that it\u2019s an important parcel, with its proximity to Austin Peay and the city\u2019s legacy neighborhoods, and while it\u2019s too early to talk plans or funding, they all have an interest in its development.<\/p>\n<p>The leaders also talked about keeping pedestrians and motorists safe on College Street, with the University\u2019s growing enrollment bringing more students to campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe big challenge is Fourth and College streets and realigning Home Avenue because of the offset,\u201d Pitts said. \u201cWe\u2019re talking with the University about a joint project to be able to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three organizations \u2013 Austin Peay, the city and the county \u2013 plan to host additional partnership meetings in the future. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Austin Peay State University (APSU)&nbsp; Clarksville, TN &#8211; Last Friday morning, Dr. Alisa White, Austin Peay State University president, told several community leaders that she is proud of the University\u2019s record enrollment of 10,954 students and Austin Peay\u2019s position as the fastest-growing university in Tennessee.
