This monologue honors the VDAY 2019 theme highlighting the experiences of women currently or formerly incarcerated in jail, prison or detention centers.<\/p>\n<p>The dance group, Diamond Divas, will open the Wednesday night show, with a dance routine, and on Friday night Monica Meeks will perform an original monologue bringing attention to sexual assault survivors in the military.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. veterans and active service members are encouraged to attend the show and support this community effort to raise awareness about sexual assault survivors who have served in the armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>All money raised from the performances will be donated to Clarksville\u2019s Sexual Assault Center and Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s performances will feature two teams of directors, one team for each show.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday night\u2019s show will be co-directed by APSU students Kianna Marshall and Dusty. Friday night\u2019s show will be co-directed by Adriane Hatfield, local realtor, and Barbara Lee Gray, APSU instructor of English and Women\u2019s and Gender Studies. All directors are veteran performers of the show.<\/p>\n<p>Austin Peay first produced \u201cThe Vagina Monologues\u201d in 2002, and the show has been performed every year since, raising more than $20,000 for organizations such as the Sexual Assault Center, Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee, and Urban Ministries Safehouse in Clarksville.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[320left]By joining V-DAY\u2019s global fundraising efforts, Austin Peay and tens of thousands of other communities and college campuses help raise consciousness, change laws to protect women and girls, fund rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters, educate communities and raise more than $100 million for groups working to end violence and support survivors and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a portion of the APSU Clothesline Project will be displayed in Clement Lobby during the performances.
