A few senators, and some supposed friends, stabbed the Roman emperor in one of the most famous assassinations in human history.<\/p>\n<p>The story may be old \u2013 often taught in literature and history classes \u2013 but scientist and New York Times best-selling author Sam Kean recently argued that the events of that day still linger.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_443289\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Sam-Kean.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-443289\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-443289\" title=\"Sam Kean\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Sam-Kean-480x321.jpg\" alt=\"Sam Kean\" width=\"480\" height=\"321\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-443289\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sam Kean<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to Kean, \u201cthe story of (Caesar\u2019s) last breath is still unfolding; in fact, you\u2019re probably inhaling some of it now.<\/p>\n<p>Of the sextillions of molecules entering or leaving your lungs at this moment, some might well bear traces of Cleopatra\u2019s perfumes, German mustard gas, particles exhaled by dinosaurs or emitted by atomic bombs, even remnants of stardust from the universe\u2019s creation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the last several years, Kean has taken fascinating, though complex, scientific concepts, and made them entertaining and accessible to the general public with books like \u201cCaesar\u2019s Last Breath,\u201d \u201cThe Tale of Dueling Neurosurgeons\u201d and \u201cThe Violinist\u2019s Thumb.\u201d At 6:00pm on Thursday, February 7th, he will visit Austin Peay State University\u2019s Sundquist Science Complex, Room E106, for a lecture and book signing.<\/p>\n<p>According NPR, \u201cKean is one of America\u2019s smartest and most charming science writers, and his new book could be perfect for summer readers who prefer some substance with their fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCaesar\u2019s Last Breath\u201d was named the Guardian science book of the year in 2017, while \u201cThe Disappearing Spoon\u201d was a runner-up for the Royal Society book of the year. Both \u201cThe Violinist\u2019s Thumb\u201d and \u201cThe Dueling Neurosurgeons\u201d were nominated for PEN\u2019s literary science writing award.<\/p>\n<p>Kean\u2019s visit to Austin Peay State University is free and open to the public, and sponsored by the APSU College of STEM, the APSU Department of Chemistry and the APSU Office of Student Research and Innovation.
