{"id":26801,"date":"2019-01-30T15:16:56","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T21:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=26801"},"modified":"2019-01-30T15:16:56","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T21:16:56","slug":"apsu-to-host-annual-guitarfest-february-11th-13th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2019\/01\/30\/apsu-to-host-annual-guitarfest-february-11th-13th\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU to host annual Guitarfest February 11th-13th"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Austin Peay State University (APSU)<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-324279\" title=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Austin-Peay-State-University-APSU.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" width=\"250\" height=\"64\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Austin Peay State University and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts present the annual APSU GuitarFest featuring guest artist concerts and workshops.<\/p>\n<p>The concerts will be held February 11th-13th at 7.30pm in the Music\/Mass Communication Building\u2019s Mabry Concert Hall and are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_204702\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/APSU-GuitarFest-StanleyYates.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-204702\" class=\"wp-image-204702 size-medium\" title=\"APSU Professor of Music Stanley Yates playing at GuitarFest.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/APSU-GuitarFest-StanleyYates-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"APSU Professor of Music Stanley Yates playing at GuitarFest.\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-204702\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">APSU Professor of Music Stanley Yates playing at GuitarFest.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nThis year\u2019s guest artists are Duoversal (Brazilian classical \/ jazz guitarist Paolo Oliviera with saxophonist Alex Graham), classical guitarist Stephen Mattingly, and Australian fingerstyle guitar phenomenon Joe Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>Duoversal\u2019s concert on Monday February 11th will focus on new arrangements by Olivera of Brazilian music and jazz for solo guitar and for guitar with saxophone, including music by such luminaries Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Pat Metheny and Sting.<\/p>\n<p>Australian fingerstyle virtuoso Joe Robinson performs on Tuesday February 12th. Joe was voted \u201cBest New Talent\u201d in the Guitar Player Readers\u2019 Poll and in 2008, at the age of 16, was a winner in the nationally broadcast television show \u201cAustralia\u2019s Got Talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The final concert, on Wednesday February 13th, features classical guitarist Stephen Mattingly. Stephen directs the guitar program at the University of Louisville and his recital will feature music dedicated to legendary Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia by Ponce, Mompou and Turina, along with music by Gerhard, Martin and contemporary American composer Marc Satterwhite.<\/p>\n<p>Oliveira will conduct a guitar workshop \u201cImprovisation and arranging for classical guitarists\u201d on Monday February 11th and Robinson will conduct a fingerstyle guitar workshop on Tuesday, February 12th, both at 2.00pm in the Music\/Mass Communication Building\u2019s Mabry Concert Hall.
