With the money, they\u2019ll travel to far-off places such as India and Romania and to closer destinations such as Missouri and Vermont.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really got a sense of what was going on in the college and was very impressed about some of the things that are happening,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n<h3>Student Reaction<\/h3>\n<p>The students were especially excited to hear their projects were picked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was the best part,\u201d Jones said. \u201cIt\u2019s a big deal for a college to say what you\u2019re working on is important and we\u2019re going to give you money to help you out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rei Miller was surprised her project \u2013 a multimedia interactive about how stereotyping and writing, specifically in emails, affect the writer and the reader \u2013 was awarded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was honestly expecting to receive a decline, so when I saw the \u2018congratulations,\u2019 my brain just stopped,\u201d she said. \u201cI was in a sort of shock and speechlessness, which then led me to saying expletives and not being able to fall asleep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jane Seage is going to Romania next summer to work at an archaeological site, a Roman villa and settlement where she\u2019ll learn about archaeological and geophysical techniques, the culture and history of the area and the Roman impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGetting the grant was a huge relief since the deadline for the trip\u2019s fees was coming up, and this is my only way to really pay for it,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Meet The Faculty Winners<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Christopher Bailey<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Theatre and Dance, will attend the 38<sup>th<\/sup> annual Three-Day Intensive at the Commercial Theatre Institute in New York City for a comprehensive education in commercial theater producing.<\/p>\n<p>[320right]<strong>Soma Banerjee<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSUDepartment of History and Philosophy, will conduct research in the specialized archives in Kolkata, India, to complete the field research for his upcoming book, \u201cThe Making of Modern Physics in Colonial India.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong> Korre Foster<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Music, will attend \u201cChoral Art: Conductors and Composers\u201d residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity in Banff, Canada, to explore new methods of performance and composition of choral music.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Gregory Hammond<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of History and Philosophy, will spend six weeks conducting archival research in Peru in support of a book tentatively titled \u201cWomen\u2019s Suffrage in Peru: Voting Rights as a Measure for Human Rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong> Kristen Sienkiewicz<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Music, will perform and present a lecture at the 2019 International Horn Symposium in Ghent, Belgium.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Jane Wessel<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Languages and Literature, will conduct research at the Garrick Club and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England, for an article on extra-illustration and the construction of celebrity in 18<sup>th<\/sup>-century England.<\/p>\n<h3>Meet The Student Winners<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Jordan Bennett<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Music, will attend the 2019 International Horn Symposium in Ghent, Belgium, where he will attend master classes and compete in the Frizelle Orchestral Audition Contests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Julia Damore<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Music, will attend \u201cGerman for Singers,\u201d an immersive experience where singers speak only German for seven weeks, at Middlebury College in Vermont.<\/p>\n<p>[320right]<strong>Catelyn Dasilva<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Art + Design, will create a series of art pieces titled \u201cState of Awareness\u201d in which she explores the viewers\u2019 preconceived and romantic notions of cities, particularly Los Angeles and New York City.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erin Dodd<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Communication, will attend the Popular Culture Association\u2019s 2019 National Conference to present a paper titled \u201cWords We Use: The Slang of Today\u2019s College Students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rei Miller<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Art + Design, will create a series of art using printmaking, photography and video to address racial identity and prejudice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Noah Perkins<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Music, will attend the American Choral Directors Association national conference in Kansas City, Missouri.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jane Seage<br \/>\n<\/strong>APSU Department of Languages and Literature, will travel to Romania to participate in archeological research, attending a workshop on
