<\/a>Sponsored by the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA), the APSU Department of Theatre and Dance will host two workshops by Timothy Mooney as well as a public performance of his one-man show, \u201cMoli\u00e8re Than Thou,\u201d November 6th, 2018.<\/p><\/div>\n

Mooney\u2019s work with Moli\u00e8re goes well beyond his celebrated, manic performance of 10 of his monologues.<\/p>\n
Mooney has rewritten 15 of Moli\u00e8re\u2019s plays in their entirety, bringing a dexterity of English speech to these works which were so dazzling in their original French.<\/p>\n
This language barrier has distanced Moli\u00e8re from the English-speaking audience, which has never appreciated him as well as his renaissance brother, Shakespeare. \u201cMoli\u00e8re Than Thou\u201d finds a Moli\u00e8re who stands toe-to-toe with Shakespeare, trading brilliant couplets late into the night.<\/p>\n
In the course of his 85-minute one-man play, Mooney seduces the audience with a complexity of language that is a sensual delight. Parading through the best loved plays of France\u2019s history, \u201cMoli\u00e8re Than Thou\u201d reinvigorates renaissance theatre, the court of Louis XIV and the vision that generated some of the most beloved plays of all time.<\/p>\n
Mooney\u2019s performance is literate, enthusiastic and athletic. The play won a \u201cBest of\u201d award from the San Francisco Fringe Festival and was listed first of the \u201cTop Ten Artistic Events of 2006\u201d from the Chattanooga Pulse.<\/p>\n
In its Orlando Fringe performances, the press raved \u201cClearly Moliere lives,\u201d \u201cA delight for all those who appreciate the barbed satire and slyly nuanced language in Moli\u00e8re\u2019s classic skewerings of the rich and pompous.\u201d<\/p>\n
Winnipeg Fringe reviewers celebrated: \u201cThe listener can draw all the available pleasure from the splendid speeches penned by the man considered the French Shakespeare,\u201d and commended \u201cMooney\u2019s unbelievably expressive eyes and fabulous facial expressions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The New York media exclaimed, \u201cMove over Richard Wilbur, Timothy Mooney is the real deal \u2026 A very tight performance which should be seen by any aspiring actor who wants to tread the boards.\u201d One audience member cheered, \u201cI\u2019ve seen the Comedie Francaise, and they\u2019ve got NOTHING on this guy!\u201d<\/p>\n
[320left]Mooney will also be presenting two workshops on writing, producing and touring the one-man play. Workshops will be in the Austin Peay State University Trahern Building on November 6th, 2018, at the following times: 11:10am-12:35pm in room 420B and 12:45pm-2:10pm in room 402.<\/p>\n
