Mintz says of her work, \u201cArt, whether it is creating it or enjoying the works of others, is a very healing experience for me. Art is so personal, yet it can speak to anyone. Being an introvert, art has been the thing that has given me a voice.\u201d This exhibition is sponsored in part by Nashville Arts Magazine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camille Engel: Her Home Tennessee<\/strong><br \/>\nOctober 16th \u2013 January 2nd | Crouch Gallery<\/p>\n<p>American contemporary realist oil painter Camille Engel is internationally acclaimed and known for her use of rich colors, textures, and intricate detail. This award-winning artist has created a series of paintings themed around the Tennessee State symbols.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the exhibit, the Museum will display 13 student works of art created within the same theme and chosen through a juried process, featuring work from grades 2nd \u2013 10th. The student art competition is sponsored by Jerry\u2019s Artarama and Chromatics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alan LeQuire: From Clay to Bronze<\/strong><br \/>\nOctober 19th \u2013 January 6th | Orgain &amp; Bruner Galleries<\/p>\n<p>[320right]Alan LeQuire is best known today for his monumental sculptures in Middle Tennessee. \u201cFrom Clay to Bronze\u201d features works done in terra cotta, bronze, and drawings, and includes the traveling exhibit \u201cLost Wax Casting\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This exhibit includes clay models, molds, wax castings, and finished bronze sculpture, along with photographs that help to explain the process that was invented in China over 10,000 years ago. Finished works include many of LeQuire&#8217;s small-scale figure studies. The exhibition promotes the value of traditional practices: studying the human figure and working from life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best of Tennessee Craft<\/strong><br \/>\nAugust 4th &#8211; October 14th | Crouch, Orgain, &amp; Bruner Galleries<\/p>\n<p>The Best of Tennessee Craft Juried Exhibition represents a full range of media from artisans throughout the state. Juror Kathryn Hall reviewed 172 entries to create the show that is on display through October 14th. The awards for this show are sponsored by the Ayers Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the juried work, the Museum will showcase Tennessee Craft\u2019s Master Artist Collection of craft representing the finest work of Tennessee artists. The artists were chosen for their strong and unique styles. Their interpretations within the theme of figurative painting are as diverse as the many types of women in our society. Among the leaves, search for seed pods, small twigs, pieces of bark, and pinecones: can you help the squirrel find some acorns? Count how many you can find.<\/p>\n<p>Look at the items up-close under a microscope or magnifying glass; what do you see? Play a matching game where you match what you find in the Leaf Sensory Bin to a picture of that item. Be prepared to get messy! Explore and play with a bowl of green slime: is it a liquid or a solid? This funding allows us to offer a series of free art-making experiences called ART 4 US that will begin with these classes.<\/p>\n<p>This project is a new community engagement initiative based on the premise that exposure to the visual arts can and should be an edifying encounter for anyone, regardless of skill level, background, age, economic standing, or other perceived barriers to the enjoyment of art. The hands-on experience of making art is an important project component. During 4 days this fall break, we will offer morning and afternoon workshops led by artists that focus on 4 different media: drawing, painting, 3-D and multi-media.<\/p>\n<p>**Participants must register on-site at the Museum. An Army veteran, Diehr studied at New York Art Student League, Pratt Institute, with college degrees of B.F.A. in Studio Art, Masters of Sculptures and Ceramics, Ed.S. Industrial Arts, and PhD.<\/p>\n<p>He served as a college professor and administrator for many years in Kansas and Tennessee. His work can be found in the exhibition \u201cBest of Tennessee Craft Juried Exhibition\u201d, on display through October 14. This program is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stories in Stone: Greenwood Cemetery Historic Walking Tour<\/strong><br \/>\nSaturday, October 13th | 10:00am<\/p>\n<p>Join us for an outdoor walking tour through Greenwood Cemetery, followed by a behind the scenes opportunity to view relevant artifacts from the Customs House Museum &amp; Cultural Center\u2019s Collection. Melissa Miller, Curator of Collections at the Customs House Museum, will serve as the tour guide.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $20.00 or $15.00 for Museum Members, and may be purchased by calling 931-648-5780 or visiting Seasons: The Museum Store. All proceeds will benefit Museum&#8217;s Collection. In the event of rain storms, the tour will be rescheduled.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MONSTERS: Show me how to draw one!<\/strong><br \/>\nFamily Art Studio | Sunday, October 21st| 1:00pm\u20134:00pm<\/p>\n<p>The truth is, nobody, not even the most famous artist, can tell you how to draw a monster. Whether cute and cuddly ones like the loveable Cookie Monster or the creepy ones like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, they exist only in our imagination.<\/p>\n<p>Come draw or make the monster that\u2019s in your head, be it friendly or scary.
