{"id":26129,"date":"2018-07-31T12:00:11","date_gmt":"2018-07-31T17:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=26129"},"modified":"2018-07-31T02:24:41","modified_gmt":"2018-07-31T07:24:41","slug":"clarksville-parks-and-recreation-earns-green-certification-gold-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2018\/07\/31\/clarksville-parks-and-recreation-earns-green-certification-gold-status\/","title":{"rendered":"Clarksville Parks and Recreation earns Green Certification Gold status"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-299103\" title=\"Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Clarksville-Parks-and-Recreation-Department.jpg\" alt=\"Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department\" width=\"240\" height=\"96\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; The City of Clarksville\u2019s Parks and Recreation department recently received a status of \u201cGold\u201d from the Clarksville-Montgomery County (CMC) Green Certification Program for their efforts in creating a healthier, environment-friendly workplace.<\/p>\n<p>The CMC Green Certification Program is designed to help governments and businesses learn and implement the best practices in environmental stewardship, in an effort to sustain the community\u2019s resources through a series of free workshops taught by environmental and other subject area specialists.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_335165\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Clarksville-Parks-and-Recreation-Department-Office.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-335165\" class=\"wp-image-335165 size-medium\" title=\"Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department earns recognition for conserving resources and reducing waste.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Clarksville-Parks-and-Recreation-Department-Office-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department earns recognition for conserving resources and reducing waste.\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-335165\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department earns recognition for conserving resources and reducing waste.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very proud of the Parks and Recreation department for the strides they\u2019ve made to be more eco friendly and I believe the entire City is focused on using best practices to promote the ultimate in environmental stewardship,\u201d said Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving a Bronze status in 2016, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation department completed a program recertification to continue their going-green efforts.<\/p>\n<p>In order to achieve a Gold recognition, the department initiated several improvements to already existing green practices that included installing new energy efficient windows, increasing recycling efforts at recreational facilities, replacing light displays with LED lighting, removing personal trash cans at desks and replacing with recycle bins, reducing paper use by encouraging online registration and by hosting homesteading programs for the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo much of what we do at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation department relies on the environment,\u201d said Jennifer Letourneau, Clarksville Parks and Recreation Director. \u201cOur Greenways, Blueways, athletic fields, parks, forestry division and much more depend on the health of the land around us.
