Allyn Smith took them on a spin through the night sky.<\/p>\n<p>Then the kids journeyed down the hall and took in several laboratory demonstrations led by Bryan Gaither, the APSU Department of Physics, Engineering and Astronomy\u2019s lab manager.<\/p>\n<p>The children watched (or took part in) demonstrations such as a vacuum cannon firing pingpong balls over 450 mph; a Tesla coil sparking a hydrogen-filled balloon to burst into flames; liquid nitrogen-chilled balloons re-inflating as the air inside them warmed; and liquid nitrogen-dipped roses, lettuce and onions shatter like porcelain.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_429188\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Austin-Peay-State-University-scientists-host-youngsters-for-Tesla-powered-fun-3.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-429188\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-429188\" title=\"Kids get ready to hurl liquid nitrogen-frozen roses, onions and lettuce into the floor.
