The Junior Girl Scout troop bought the materials, then teamed up with students at Rossview High School to build, stain and donate the benches.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suggested we do something different this year with our extra money, so instead of spending it on ourselves, we brainstormed ways to give back to our community,\u201d said Ellen Morra, troop leader. \u201cOne of the girls said she would see people standing at bus stops here in the city, and in the movies everyone always sits down, so she suggested making benches for people to sit down on at bus stops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After finding plans for the style of bench they wanted, the group of 5th graders bought all the necessary wood and headed to Rossview High School\u2019s shop class for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe boys in the Structure class were so helpful,\u201d Morra said. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t have done it without them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The completion of the benches took about a week, and afterwards, the girl scouts stained and waterproofed them prior to being delivered to the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re lovely benches, they look great,\u201d said Arthur Bing Sr., Clarksville Transit System director. \u201cIt was a thoughtful project for them to do, everyone did a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bing said after the bus stop sites are selected, CTS will pour cement slabs for the benches, each with a plaque that has Girl Scout Troop 773 engraved on it.
