<\/a><\/a>\"\"<\/a>Dunbar Cave will present many nature programs this summer. The schedule for the first week of June has programs on Trees, Wildflowers, Native Americans, Man\u2019s Use of the Area, Birds, Turtles, Bats, Top Ten Hiking Essentials and Fuzzy Critters. Schedule of events below. Later programs planned will include Salamanders, Night Hikes, Sunset Hikes, Early Morning Hikes, Blowguns, nature crafts, Snakes, Bat Emergence, Dragonflies, Fishing, Bird Feeders, and many others.<\/p>\n

What else is happening at Dunbar? Several frogs are calling, including Bullfrog, Green Frog, Cricket Frog and Leopard Frog; our Green Heron has returned for the summer; birds are nesting; flowers are blooming (look for Indian Pink, Wild Petunia, and Water Willow); cleanup from the flood is progressing.<\/p>\n

Wednesday, June 2nd<\/h3>\n

TREES ARE TERRIFIC HIKE<\/strong>

Learn the trees of the region on our one mile trail.<\/div>\n

Thursday, June 3rd<\/h3>\n

WILDFLOWER WALK<\/strong>
\nTime<\/strong>: 9:00 am – 11:00 am.
\nAges<\/strong>: 8 – adult<\/p>\n

Join us for a 1-mile hike on the Short Loop Trail to discover these beautiful park residents. Wear good hiking shoes, and bring field guides if you own them.<\/div>\n

NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY <\/strong>

Many groups of Native Americans have called Dunbar Cave their home. This program will discuss their lifestyles and why they would have used this area. Meet at the Cave.<\/div>\n

Friday, June 4th<\/h3>\n

BIRD HIKE<\/strong>

Bring your binoculars and learn about the colorful birds of our Area.<\/div>\n

TURTLES<\/strong>
\nTime<\/strong>: 9:00 am – 10:30 am.

This program will explore the many species of turtles that call our park home, with a slide show and a brief walk around the lake. We may even have a few on hand so you can see them up close and personal.<\/div>\n

Gain a better appreciation for your local park by viewing a slideshow covering the past 10,000 years of human activity at Dunbar Cave.<\/div>\n

America\u2019s bats are dying at an alarming rate. Find out why Dunbar Cave is closed indefinitely.<\/div>\n

Saturday, June 5th<\/h3>\n

TOP TEN ESSENTIALS<\/strong>
\nTime:<\/strong>: 9:00 am – 10:30 am.
\nAges:<\/strong>: 5 – 12<\/p>\n

Learn the ten most important things you should have with you every time you go into the woods. Afterwards join us for a hike on the Recovery Trail (2 miles) to see where these items could come in handy. Bring hiking boots, water and sunscreen.<\/div>\n

FUZZY CRITTERS<\/strong>
\nTime:<\/strong>: 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm.

Take a quick tour of the Museum at Dunbar Cave to get a \u201cfeel\u201d for all the animals that call it home. Later take a hike to see if we can spot any of them in the wild. Bring hiking boots, water, sunscreen and camera (optional).<\/div>\n

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require Reservations by the deadline listed<\/span>. Programs with no Reservations by the deadline are canceled.<\/p>\n

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.<\/p>\n

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).
\nThe age limits are definite \u2013 please do not sign up a child who is too young or too old for the program.<\/p>\n
