Organizers have set up online sites to inform and connect members.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_413534\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Bicycle-Fun.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-413534\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-413534\" title=\"The popularity of Clarksville's BCycle bike-sharing system helped inspire the newly formed 'Bike Walk Clarksville' citizens group.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Bicycle-Fun-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"The popularity of Clarksville's BCycle bike-sharing system helped inspire the newly formed 'Bike Walk Clarksville' citizens group.\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-413534\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The popularity of Clarksville&#8217;s BCycle bike-sharing system helped inspire the newly formed &#8216;Bike Walk Clarksville&#8217; citizens group.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>They are:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Google: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/cityofclarksville.com\/bike-walk-clarksville\/home\" >https:\/\/sites.google.com\/cityofclarksville.com\/bike-walk-clarksville\/home<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Facebook: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/198084460782176\/\" >https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/198084460782176\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department organized Tuesday\u2019s meeting, which was attended by 38 people, including representatives from these groups:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarksville Cycling Club; Clarksville Running Club; Clarksville Triathlon Club;<\/li>\n<li>Healthy Clarksville; and Team Red, White and Blue.<\/li>\n<li>APSU Plant Management, APSU Student Government and APSU Health and Human Performance.<\/li>\n<li>Nashville Strides; and Revolutions Bicycle Co-op, Memphis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan said she is encouraged by Bike Walk Clarksville\u2019s strong start.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that biking, walking and running are priority activities for City residents,\u201d Mayor McMillan said. \u201cSo we are excited about engaging with citizens and growing a bike\/walk advocacy group for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Education was a frequent topic of discussion at the group\u2019s inaugural meeting, and thoughts were offered about how to better inform drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and youth on safety and road-sharing procedures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shared-use paths as an alternative to sidewalks were discussed. Members also ranked some priorities for the group, which include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improving existing bike paths and lanes and adding new ones.<\/li>\n<li>Connecting existing bike paths, and using paths and lanes to connect people existing attractions and facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Members agreed that subcommittees should be established to organize the group\u2019s efforts and to focus on key topics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Clarksville, TN &#8211; Bike Walk Clarksville, a group of citizens on a mission to promote a more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly community, got rolling this week with a formative meeting at Wilma Rudolph Events Center.
