Members of the society will provide guided tours of the cemetery (weather permitting).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Surrender of Clarksville<\/strong><br \/>\n10:00am to 3:00pm, Saturday, February 24th<\/p>\n<p>This event commemorates the surrender of Fort Defiance to Union soldiers in 1862. Uniformed soldiers will provide living history and cannon firing demonstrations. Visitors are welcome to tour the permanent exhibit and view the award-winning film, \u201cCrossroads of Change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All events are free. To find out more call 931.472.3351.<\/p>\n<h3>About Fort Defiance<\/h3>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Fort-Defiance-Civil-War-Park.jpg\"  rel=\"attachment wp-att-104620\" class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-104620\" title=\"Fort Defiance Civil War Park &amp; Interpretive Center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Fort-Defiance-Civil-War-Park-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"Fort Defiance Civil War Park &amp; Interpretive Center\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\"\/><\/a>Fort Defiance, which overlooks the confluence of the Red and Cumberland Rivers, was a cornerstone of the Confederate defense of the area and an important part of the eventual Union occupation of Clarksville.&nbsp; In 1982, Judge and Mrs. Sam Boaz, donated the property to the City of Clarksville.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, the City secured a $2.2 million federal grant that was combined with local funding and the process of construction of the interpretive center and walking trails began.
