\"FirstClarksville, TN<\/strong> – Produced by The Downtown Clarksville Association, First Thursday Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour spanning a 5-block radius that combines visual art, live music, engaging events and more in the heart of Downtown Clarksville.<\/p>\n

With 10+ venues, bars and businesses participating each month, the First Thursday Art Walk in Clarksville is the ultimate opportunity to savor and support local creative talent.<\/p>\n

The February Art Walk will be held February 1st, 2018 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the shops and galleries on Public Square, Franklin Street, and Strawberry Alley.<\/p>\n

The participating businesses are listed below as well as a description of the work they will be exhibiting and services they will be offering during the event.<\/p>\n

Downtown Artists Co-op (96 Franklin Street)<\/h3>\n

The DAC is an association of talented local artists and interested patrons dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the Clarksville\/Montgomery County area. Our objectives are to sponsor art exhibitions of work by Co-op members and regional artists, to provide continuing support for the Co-op and its membership through the sale of art work, to encourage arts education with outreach programs and scholarship fundraisers, and to develop membership services which directly support the arts community.<\/p>\n

Artist Information<\/h4>\n

DAC (Downtown Artist Cooperative) is proud to announce our 7th Annual DAC Juried Photo Expo. DAC welcomes all amateur and professional photographers from Clarksville and the surrounding area to participate.<\/p>\n

A Clarksville tradition, the DAC Juried Photo Expo features multiple categories and styles of photography. All work entered is will be juried by our professional jurors for cash awards. The announcement of winners and awards will be given at 5:00pm on Thursday, February 1st during Clarksville\u2019s First Thursday Artwalk.<\/p>\n

Entries can range from modern digital photography, to traditional B&W film and alternative process photography. Categories of photography are Landscape\/Nature, Human Portrait\/Figure Study, Still Life and Experimental\/Alternative Process. Jurors for this year\u2019s Expo are H.N. James and Jay Preston Swafford.<\/p>\n

The Annapurna Circuit: A Trail Through the Heavens<\/strong>
\nA collection of photographs from a series in progress by Jonathan J. Wheeler<\/p>\n

The Framemaker is proud to present photography by Jonathan J. Wheeler. This exhibit is part of Clarksville\u2019s First Thursday Art Walk on February 1st, 2018. An opening reception will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibit will remain on display at The Framemaker throughout the month of February during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 5:00pm).<\/p>\n

[320left]Jonathan states: \u201cThe Annapurna mountain range is one of the most breathtaking views anyone can see with their own eyes. This series and the story about my journey is a chance for viewers to see the sights and experiences I was so blessed to have gained. It\u2019s in my hopes this series may spark a flame of inspiration or need to travel\u2026 to go see what the world has to offer\u201d.<\/p>\n

Peg Harvill Gallery<\/strong><\/p>\n

For those who enjoy the visual arts, the Peg Harvill Gallery, located just beyond the lobby, hosts twelve shows annually featuring locally and nationally known artisans. Shows generally open the first Thursday of each month for our First Thursday Art Walk.<\/p>\n

Artist Information<\/h4>\n

The Roxy Regional Theatre\u2019s Peg Harvill Gallery is proud to local photographer, Lucas Ryan Chambers, during the February First Thursday Art Walk.<\/p>\n

Lucas Ryan Cambers is an internationally published photographer and senior at Austin Peay State University. His passion for photography began while growing up in Hawaii and continues to be inspired by his love of the outdoors and travel. Known by most as \u201cThe Dude with the Camera\u201d, he has spent the past year photographing everything from the Southwest to Haiti. His current show, \u201cMaybe it Meant Something, Maybe Not\u201d will be displayed during the February First Thursday Are Walk and mirrors the subtext of the poem, \u201cA Dream Deferred\u201d by Langston Hughes, which was the inspiration for the play, A Raisin in the Sun.<\/p>\n

Couture Crush (125 Franklin Street)<\/h3>\n

Artist Information<\/h4>\n

Couture Crush is proud to host local artist, Jane Olson, during the February First Thursday Art Walk.<\/p>\n

Jane Sharpe Olson is a native Tennessean, originally from Memphis. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in European History and French, and a minor in Art History. She is a practicing attorney with Olson & Olson, PLC in downtown Clarksville.<\/p>\n

Bright, strong colors and images permeate her art, and she uses mainly watercolor paints and manipulated, hand-painted papers in her paintings and collages. Jane finds inspiration in the works of famous artists such as Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, and Kadinsky, as well as Abstract Expressionists.<\/p>\n

Horsefeathers Pottery & Art Studio (94 Franklin Street)<\/h3>\n

Artist Information<\/h4>\n

Horsefeathers Pottery and Art Studio is proud to feature local artist Julia Weber, Graphic Design & Pet Portraits, during the February First Thursday Art Walk and will be open from 5:00pm\u20137:00pm.<\/p>\n

Julia Weber is originally from Germany and moved to Clarksville in September 2017 when her husband got assigned to Fort Campbell. She earned her graphic design certification in 2013 and is successfully running her own business, called PowerDesign since 2014, specializing in Print Products, such as business cards, flyers, invitations and much more.<\/p>\n

[320right]Julia started painting pet portraits in 2016 and painted over 60 animals since then. The portraits are painted with acrylic and watercolors on either canvas or art paper.<\/p>\n

The painting will be hand painted directly from a photo and are a great way to celebrate love and companionship with your furry friend. Julia is also working as an artist at the Horsefeathers Pottery & Art Studio, where you can take a look at some of her portraits.<\/p>\n

In my recent works there are bolder colorations that match a natural aesthetic; with a bit of enchantment to them. The pieces focus on a series of mythological animals.<\/p>\n

The inspiration comes from several cultures, artists, and creatures. I have spent some time researching different cultural myths\/lore\/and icons. This has allowed me to come up with folkloric animals of my own.<\/p>\n

Each piece has a simplistic story and background while introducing a mystical element. They capture a natural fantasy.<\/p>\n

Customs House Museum (200 S. 2nd Street)<\/h3>\n

The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is Tennessee\u2019s second largest general interest museum. It features fine art, history, and children\u2019s exhibits.<\/p>\n

Aretha McKinney Blevins: A Sense of Serenity<\/strong>

Aretha McKinney Blevins is a Nashville local and self-taught artist. She received her Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s degrees in Classical Studies from Vanderbilt University, teaching Latin, Art History, and Greek Mythology for a number of years. Aretha currently owns the Iyengar Yoga Center of Nashville and spends her free time painting and sculpting. This exhibition is sponsored by Nashville Arts Magazine.<\/p>\n

Our Town (Stories of Clarksville)<\/strong>

An exhibition of regional stories featuring photographs and artifacts from our collection, including: the jail, Trinity Episcopal Church, the Court House, the Capitol Theater, and more.<\/p>\n

Celebrating African American Businesses of Clarksville<\/strong>
\nJanuary 8th \u2013 February 28th | The Leaf Chronicle Lobby<\/p>\n

This exhibition uses objects and images from the Museum\u2019s permanent collection to celebrate local African American businesses throughout Clarksville\u2019s history, such as Pope Garrett Dry Cleaners.<\/p>\n

Sloane Bibb: Storied Elements<\/strong>
\nJanuary 11th \u2013 February 28th | Crouch Gallery<\/p>\n

Wood, metal, paper, found objects, tar, and wax make up Atlanta artist Sloane Bibb\u2019s mixed media pieces. Simple motifs, including nature and the female form, stand in measured contrast to the quirky compositions, pointed imagery and high-low mix of materials.<\/p>\n

[320right]Denise Stewart Sanabria: Misappropriated Mythology Altars<\/strong>
\nJanuary 12th \u2013 March 4th | Jostens Gallery<\/p>\n

Where does mythology originate? Who gets to define and invent it? How much of our older Western Mythology is relevant now, and how would it be updated? Using Byzantine decoration, Faberge egg bling, Medieval religious altar construction, and 21st century design standards, Denise Stewart Sanabria has created secular cultural altars dedicated to who we are and what we value and obsess about.<\/p>\n

Narrative Illusions: The Visions of Mindy Herrin<\/strong>
\nJanuary 16th \u2013 May 6th | Orgain & Bruner Galleries<\/p>\n

Mindy Herrin\u2019s narrative sculpture is created with a combination of metal and alternative materials. Organic by nature, her forms use materials for their tactile properties, creating pieces that move, have the appearance of flesh, and hint to the adventures of being female in everyday life.<\/p>\n

The Art of Mixed Media Inspired Artists<\/strong>
