The suite of small, detailed oil paintings possess a bold presence, with duel images on each panel.<\/p>\n<p>Exotic birds and flowers balance delicate eggs and fruit in each piece.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_396019\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Ann-Nichols-White-Cockatoos-1.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-396019\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-396019\" title=\"Ann Nichols - White Cockatoos\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Ann-Nichols-White-Cockatoos-1-480x386.jpg\" alt=\"Ann Nichols - White Cockatoos\" width=\"480\" height=\"386\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-396019\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ann Nichols &#8211; White Cockatoos<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dividing the picture plane into two unequal sections, she pairs a single object or small still life with an historical art inspired image.<\/p>\n<p>The sections of the painting relate to each other in either an obvious or an oblique way.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Nichols is a contemporary painter who has explored various subject matter in series, finally settling on realistic still-lifes. Many of her paintings are inspired by art historical images such as Renaissance portraits, flowers by Georgia O\u2019Keeffe, Dutch floral paintings, botanicals, Magritte\u2019s surrealism, Degas\u2019 dancers, and Martin Johnson Heade\u2019s images of orchids and hummingbirds.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Nichols has a B.S., M.S. and a B.F A degree in painting and has mounted solo shows at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in New York City; the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga; the Cobb Museum in Marietta, GA, as well as numerous galleries in the Southeast.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_396020\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Painting-by-Ann-Nichols.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-396020\" class=\"wp-image-396020\" title=\"Painting by Ann Nichols\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Painting-by-Ann-Nichols-454x480.jpg\" alt=\"Painting by Ann Nichols\" width=\"250\" height=\"265\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-396020\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Painting by Ann Nichols<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The winner of 4 gold medals, she was juried into the Tennessee State Museum\u2019s \u201cThe Best of Tennessee\u201d exhibition and her painting was purchased by the museum for its permanent collection.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, one of her paintings was included in the International Guild of Realism\u2019s 9th Annual Juried Exhibition. In addition to the Tennessee State Museum, her paintings are in the public collections of Chattanooga\u2019s Hunter Museum of American Art, Sen. Bob Corker\u2019s office in the Senate Office Building, TVA, Opryland USA, Maryville College, UT Chattanooga, The Baylor School, First Tennessee Bank and the Summit Club in Birmingham, AL, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Nichols has served as a curator, judge for the International Children\u2019s Art Exhibit in Voronezh, Russia and visual arts panelist for the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts in Miami, FL.<\/p>\n<p>Split Focus will be on view at the Customs House Museum through December 3rd, 2107.
