{"id":24433,"date":"2017-06-23T06:00:59","date_gmt":"2017-06-23T11:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=24433"},"modified":"2017-06-23T01:03:42","modified_gmt":"2017-06-23T06:03:42","slug":"austin-peay-state-university-hosting-educational-fair-for-school-age-children-the-morning-of-august-21st-eclipse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2017\/06\/23\/austin-peay-state-university-hosting-educational-fair-for-school-age-children-the-morning-of-august-21st-eclipse\/","title":{"rendered":"Austin Peay State University hosting educational fair for school-age children the morning of August 21st Eclipse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-324279\" title=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Austin-Peay-State-University-APSU.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" width=\"250\" height=\"64\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; At 10:00am on August 21st, 2017, the day of the Total American Eclipse\u2014Austin Peay State University will host a special PeayClipse Educational Experience for school-age children in the campus\u2019 basketball arena, the Dunn Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have 10 different activity stations for them to move through that are educational and fun,\u201d Dr. Karen Meisch, associate dean of the APSU College of Science and Mathematics, said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_386244\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Get-Eclipse-Book.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-386244\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-386244\" title=\"Get Eclipse\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Get-Eclipse-Book-480x318.jpg\" alt=\"Get Eclipse\" width=\"480\" height=\"318\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-386244\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Get Eclipse<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>The activity stations include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A moon walk experience (bounce house)<\/li>\n<li>A coloring station<\/li>\n<li>Make your own sundial<\/li>\n<li>Make your own projector system (to safely view the eclipse)<\/li>\n<li>Create an edible sun (sugar-iced cookies) with sunspots (chocolate chips) and solar flares (licorice)<\/li>\n<li>A space education table with telescopes, books and information on different astronomy topics<\/li>\n<li>An APSU Geo Club table providing information about moon rocks and the topography of different planets.<\/li>\n<li>The solar system experience, featuring an inflatable solar system.<\/li>\n<li>Hearing the sun sing\u2014an audio station that lets participants hear the sounds the sun makes.<\/li>\n<li>Solar robots, featuring examples of solar-powered machines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Dunn Center\u2019s concession stands will be open during the event for attendees to purchase food. At 12:15pm, APSU faculty and students will lead everyone to the campus\u2019 Fortera Stadium to watch the eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets to the PeayClipse Educational Experience are $4.00 for children, ages 3-15, and each ticket comes with a free pair of eclipse viewing glasses and a wristband for free parking.
