On August 21st, APSU will offer two extraordinary opportunities for individuals to witness the total solar eclipse.<\/p>\n<h3>Eclipse Viewing Event at Fortera Stadium<\/h3>\n<p>Austin Peay\u2019s Fortera Stadium will open to the public at 11:30am that day for the public to view the eclipse. The cost is $5.00 to park, with each vehicle receiving a free pair of viewing glasses.<\/p>\n<p>The stadium\u2019s scoreboard will display a live feed from the APSU observatory. Beginning at noon, members of APSU\u2019s Department of Physics and Astronomy will provide scientific and historical information about the phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>This information will be repeated throughout the event. When the eclipse begins, attendees can watch the event on the scoreboard and through telescopes set up with the solar protection.<\/p>\n<h3>Premier Eclipse Viewing Experience<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_386056\" style=\"width: 143px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Dr.-Rhea-Seddon.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-386056\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-386056\" title=\"Dr. Rhea Seddon\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Dr.-Rhea-Seddon-133x200.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Rhea Seddon\" width=\"133\" height=\"200\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-386056\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Rhea Seddon<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Individuals interested in a more in-depth experience can purchase tickets to the Solar PeayClipse Lunch and Learn.<\/p>\n<p>For a $200.00 donation to the APSU College of Science and Mathematics, which will be used to provide future opportunities for APSU students, participants will enjoy a reception with Dr. Rhea Seddon, former NASA astronaut, before her keynote address at 5:00pm on August 20th, and a meal in the stadium\u2019s club level on the day of the eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>During the meal, Dr. Stephanie Wingo, NASA atmospheric scientist, will deliver a talk, and attendees will receive a commemorative book, solar glasses and a custom-designed commemorative pendant.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_386055\" style=\"width: 165px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Stephanie-Wingo.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-386055\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-386055\" title=\"Dr. Stephanie Wingo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Stephanie-Wingo-155x200.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Stephanie Wingo\" width=\"155\" height=\"200\"\/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-386055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Stephanie Wingo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To purchase tickets or for additional information, visit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apsu.edu\/eclipse,\" >www.apsu.edu\/eclipse,<\/a> or contact the APSU Advancement Office at 931.221.7127.<\/p>\n<p>The day will be memorable, and people will want to share the experience with other individuals. On June 30th, 1927, the English writer Virginia Woolf witnessed a total solar eclipse, and she later wrote about the surreal experience in her diary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt became darker and darker,\u201d she wrote, \u201cas at the beginning of a violent storm: the light sank and sank: we kept saying this is the shadow; and we thought now it is over\u2014this is the shadow when suddenly the light went out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The University is hosting several other PeayClipse celebrations this summer and on the day of the eclipse.
