{"id":24268,"date":"2017-05-14T20:01:11","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T01:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=24268"},"modified":"2017-05-14T20:01:11","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T01:01:11","slug":"mayors-summer-night-lights-provides-free-fun-for-young-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2017\/05\/14\/mayors-summer-night-lights-provides-free-fun-for-young-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayor\u2019s Summer Night Lights provides free fun for young people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-299103\" title=\"Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Clarksville-Parks-and-Recreation-Department.jpg\" alt=\"Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department\" width=\"240\" height=\"96\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is excited to invite young people in the Clarksville community to a summer program filled with free food and fun activities designed to help young people fight the summertime blues and boredom.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The fifth season of the Mayor\u2019s Summer Night Lights program will kick off June 5th with 5-on-5 basketball tournaments and continue at various locations throughout the summer with DJs, athletic competitions, arts and crafts, local music performances and even a step show featuring fraternities and sororities from Austin Peay State University.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/2017-Mayors-Summer-Night-Lights.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-382420\" title=\"2017 Mayors Summer Night Lights\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/2017-Mayors-Summer-Night-Lights-480x270.jpg\" alt=\"2017 Mayors Summer Night Lights\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\"\/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe created the Mayor\u2019s Summer Night Lights program, which was inspired by a successful program in Los Angeles, to provide teens with a positive way to spend their time during the summer months,\u201d Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis is a free program offered by the City of Clarksville that includes 15 evenings of activities and food. I encourage young people to get involved and add some fun to their summer,\u201d stated Mayor McMillan.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The fun begins Monday, June 5th at the Kleeman Community Center with 5-on-5 Basketball Tournaments for players age 14 and older. Participants must sign up at the center no later than 5:45pm.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Summer Night Lights, coordinated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, continues at six locations on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 9:00pm through July 26th. The program is designed for teens, but all ages are welcome.
