Program will provide access to parks, pools and activities<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"CityClarksville, TN<\/strong> – Clarksville Transit System and the City of Clarksville are offering free summer transportation to young people to help them engage in summer jobs and enrichment programs.<\/p>\n

CTS will offer the Summer Youth Free Ride Program from May 30th  to August 31st to youth 18 and under with a valid CTS Youth or Student ID.<\/p>\n

Clarksville Transit Service will offer free bus rides for youth 18 and under this summer, allowing more opportunity for youngsters to get to work and summer activities.<\/p><\/div>\n

The IDs can be purchased at the Downtown Transit Center, 200 Legion Street, for $2.00 with proof of age.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program is designed to help remove a common barrier — the lack of affordable transportation — that interferes with our city\u2019s youth engaging in positive activities,\u201d Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan said. \u201cWe want to help families by giving young people more opportunity to participate in athletic, social, and educational programs during the summer. \u201d<\/p>\n

Youth are invited to become new city explorers on routes that provide safe daily transportation to many parks, pools, and recreation centers operated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department. A full list of Parks and Recreation programs and activities is available at www.cityofclarksville.com\/parksrec<\/a><\/p>\n

The bus routes also offer access to the public library, the Roxy Theatre, the Customs House Museum, historical sites and special events.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe program will provide free and safe rides to help our youth to have a fun and productive summer,\u201d CTS Director Arthur Bing said.  \u201cThis will give all youth, despite their means, opportunities to partake in jobs and the large number of city programs geared for them —  opportunities that they would not be able to access if  they did not have transportation. This is also a good way to introduce them to public transit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parents will also benefit from the Summer Youth Ride Free Program by saving money on fuel and creating less wear and tear on their vehicles.<\/p>\n

Bing says savings in fuel from CTS\u2019s Hybrid buses will help fund the youth free-fare program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
