First Thursday Art Walk in downtown Clarksville<\/p><\/div>\n

The February Art Walk will be held April 6th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the shops and galleries on Public Square, Franklin Street, and Strawberry Alley.<\/p>\n

The participating businesses are listed below as well as a description of the work they will be exhibiting and services they will be offering during the event.<\/p>\n

The Framemaker (705 North Second Street)<\/h3>\n

For over two decades, The Framemaker has offered a unique selection of frames and art services to the Middle Tennessee area.<\/p>\n

On Second Thought\u2026<\/strong>
\nPhotography by Shane Moore<\/p>\n

The Framemaker proudly presents photography by Shane Moore. This exhibit is part of Clarksville\u2019s First Thursday Art Walk on April 6th, 2017. An opening reception will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibit will remain on display at the Framemaker throughout the month of April during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 10:00am to 5:00pm).<\/p>\n

Shane Moore is a fine art photographer from Clarksville, Tenn. He is a current and founding member of Downtown Artists\u2019 Co-op. Moore received a Bachelor of Science from Austin Peay State University in 2003. His exhibit, \u201cOn Second Thought\u2026,\u201d is a series of original black and white silver prints made from Shane\u2019s collection of 35mm negatives that (on second thought) were overlooked or deserved to be revisited.<\/p>\n

The Framemaker is located at the corner of North Second Street and Georgia Avenue, across from the Clarksville Academy.<\/p>\n

Edward\u2019s Steakhouse (107 Franklin Street)<\/h3>\n

Artist Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

Edward\u2019s Steakhouse is proud to host local artist, Jackie Langford, during the April First Thursday Art Walk.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have put marks on paper or anything available to me since I was a little girl with crayons and a coloring book in the middle of my mother\u2019s kitchen floor. I have spent a lifetime developing skills that could capture the essence of what I have seen, so I could put marks on surfaces that would last. Hopefully I can tell the story well, and truthfully, as all art rises to its own level and carries the artist and the viewer with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of my paintings has found its way to the White House during the tenure of President George Bush, Sr. and is now part of his library collection and listed in the Congressional Record. The Secretary of Defense has acquired a watercolor from the Desert Shield\/Desert Storm series. I have painted numerous watercolors, oils, and pastels depicting military life during Desert Shield\/Desert Storm which are now scattered throughout Fort Campbell\u2019s main headquarters and Cole Park Commons; all are now listed in the military art collection.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Roxy Regional Theatre\u2019s Peg Harvill Gallery is proud to feature the work local artist, Peggy Bonnington, during the April First Thursday Art Walk.<\/p>\n

Downtown Artists Co-op (96 Franklin Street)<\/h3>\n

The DAC is an association of talented local artists and interested patrons dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the Clarksville\/Montgomery County area.<\/p>\n

Our objectives are to sponsor art exhibitions of work by Co-op members and regional artists, to provide continuing support for the Co-op and its membership through the sale of art work, to encourage arts education with outreach programs and scholarship fundraisers, and to develop membership services which directly support the arts community.<\/p>\n

Jazz it Up\u201d \u2013 DAC\u2019s Annual Members\u2019 Exhibit<\/strong><\/p>\n

Downtown Artists Co-op (DAC) is proud to announce \u201cJazz It Up\u201d\u2026 our 16th Annual Annual Members Exhibit.<\/p>\n

[320right]\u201cJazz it Up\u201d will feature almost every variety of art from all of our members. All art will be in the theme or In the spirit of Spring and Jazz: improvisation, renewal\/rebirth, synchrinicity, seasonal, reinvention and \/or scores of other related themes.<\/p>\n

The opening reception for the DAC Annual Members Show will be on April 6th from 5:00pm till 8:00pm. This annual tradition is an exhibit of fine art by all DAC Members and features fine art including Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Photography, 3D\/Fabric Arts, Jewelry and much more.<\/p>\n

The DAC will be serving up appetizers, punch and wine, along with new and old favorites by our members. As always, the DAC opening is a central part of Clarksville\u2019s \u201cFirst Thursday Art Walk\u201d, a wonderful evening of art, music and more in beautiful Historic Downtown Clarksville. First Thursday Art Walk occurs regularly on the first Thursday of each month. Spring has sprung, so 1st Thursday promises to be a wonderful evening.<\/p>\n

Yada Yada Yada Deli (100 Strawberry Alley)<\/h3>\n

Artist Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yada Yada Yada Deli is proud to host Olasubomi Bashorun during the April First Thursday Art Walk.<\/p>\n

\u201cCreating is Life\u201d Olasubomi Bashorun graduated with an art degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and now lives and works in the Middle Tennessee area.<\/p>\n

In addition to creating beautiful original work, he teaches art, instructs ballroom dancing and hosts creative workshops. Olasubomi\u2019s artistic inspiration was fostered and influenced, in part, by his high school art teacher, Kathleen Blake.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always had talent to see and create, but she made me realize what art can do for the mind and soul. She taught me to be creative and express myself with my art. I\u2019ve been doing that ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that everyone of us should create. Sure, some peoples creation maybe more esthetically pleasing than others. But its not only about the outcome, it is about the process of starting from nothing, adding the first scribble then creating relationships from scribble to line, working through rough edges and the mistakes and then knowing when to walk away. Creating is for us all to get lost in something, express words, moods, feelings. Creating is life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Customs House Museum (200 S. 2nd Street)<\/h3>\n

The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is Tennessee\u2019s second largest general interest museum. It features fine art, history, and children\u2019s exhibits.<\/p>\n

Planters Bank Peg Harvill Gallery
\nKnoxville artist Peggy Kretchmar Leland uses hot wax to create abstract encaustic paintings, often incorporating elements of nature and architecture. Leland holds two masters degrees: one in educational administration and one in art education. She recently retired from a twenty year career teaching high school art.<\/p>\n

[320right]Marilyn Murphy: Short Stories<\/strong>
\nMarch 1st \u2013 April 30th<\/p>\n

Orgain & Bruner Galleries
\nMarilyn Murphy is an artist whose drawings and oil paintings create curious situations implying a larger story that often explores dualities both formally and conceptually (safety and danger, peace and turmoil, fire and water). A Professor of Art at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, her work has been shown in more than 300 exhibitions nationally and abroad.<\/p>\n

Chris Hornsby: Fracture<\/strong>
\nMarch 8th \u2013 May 4th<\/p>\n

Crouch Gallery
\nKnoxville artist Chris Hornsby\u2019s latest \u201cFracture\u201d painting series is a haunting exploration into the fractured human nature and the fight within. It\u2019s a combination of stark black, white, and gray \u201cshard\u201d imagery that includes multiple individual paintings that make up large scale presentations. The overall impressions given are the feeling of powerful struggles between strong opposing forces.<\/p>\n

\nThis exhibit showcases maps, documents, dioramas, flags, and photos from several wars, featuring objects from the collection of Dr. John Olson.<\/p>\n

Hunt Slonem: From the Collection<\/strong>
\nMarch 9th \u2013 May 2nd<\/p>\n

The Leaf Chronicle Lobby
\nA Neo-Expressionist, Hunt Slonem combines Abstract Expressionist techniques with mysticism and animal subjects of Islam and Mexico and is best known for his paintings of tropical birds, based on a personal aviary in which he keeps about 100 live birds of various species. See his work from the Customs House Museum\u2019s collection in The Leaf Chronicle Lobby.<\/p>\n

Reading Appalachia: Voices from Children\u2019s Literature<\/strong>
\nMarch 23rd \u2013 August 20th<\/p>\n

Memory Lane
\nThis groundbreaking exhibition of Appalachian children\u2019s literature examines seminal titles published since the 1800s. Come explore our region\u2019s literary heritage and see how children\u2019s literature tells the story of Appalachia. This is a traveling exhibit from East Tennessee Historical Society and Knox County Public Library.<\/p>\n

A Fine Note<\/strong>
\nFebruary 1st \u2013 May 28th<\/p>\n

\nThis exhibit gives a brief look at the importance of music in Clarksville. Items from the Customs House Museum\u2019s permanent collection highlight the world of music, including instruments, sheet music, photographs, and other artifacts ranging from the 1820s until the 1970s. A majority of the objects featured have a close connection to Clarksville and span from an Aeolian harp to a Jimi Hendrix tape.<\/p>\n
