{"id":23477,"date":"2016-11-14T20:00:21","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T02:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=23477"},"modified":"2016-11-14T19:29:10","modified_gmt":"2016-11-15T01:29:10","slug":"austin-peay-state-universitys-department-of-theatre-and-dance-presents-anything-goes-november-16th-20th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2016\/11\/14\/austin-peay-state-universitys-department-of-theatre-and-dance-presents-anything-goes-november-16th-20th\/","title":{"rendered":"Austin Peay State University\u2019s Department of Theatre and Dance presents \u201cAnything Goes\u201d November 16th-20th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-324279\" title=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Austin-Peay-State-University-APSU.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" width=\"250\" height=\"64\"\/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; It is not exactly like the old joke about three opposite personalities that all walk into a bar, but anything \u2013 and everything \u2013 goes when a brassy nightclub singer, a starry-eyed stowaway and a wanted man all find their way onto a transatlantic luxury liner during the Austin Peay State University\u2019s Department of Theatre and Dance\u2019s presentation of \u201cAnything Goes\u201d this November 16th-20th.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/APSU-to-present-Anything-Goes.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-366728\" title=\"APSU\u2019s Department of Theatre and Dance presents \u201cAnything Goes\u201d November 16th-20th\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/APSU-to-present-Anything-Goes-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"APSU\u2019s Department of Theatre and Dance presents \u201cAnything Goes\u201d November 16th-20th\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\"\/><\/a><!--more-->The curtain rises at 7:30pm for performances on November 16th-19th, with an additional showing November 20th at 2:00pm. Admission for all performances is $10.00 for seniors, children, military and students and $15.00 for the general public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnything Goes\u201d is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, based off of a book by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse, heavily revised by the team of Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The play is set aboard the ocean liner S.S. American, where nightclub singer Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sweeny\u2019s friend, Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt. When Hope reveals she is already engaged to the wealthy Sir Evelyn Oakleigh, the love-struck yet determined Billy works to win Hope\u2019s affections with the help of a gangster on the run, Moonface Martin and his partner Bonnie.<\/p>\n<p>First performed in 1934 at the Alvin Theater on Broadway, the show features classic songs such as \u201cYou\u2019re the Top,\u201d \u201cI Get a Kick Out of You\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s De-Lovely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I had to describe this production in one word, I\u2019d say that it\u2019s just \u2018fun\u2019,\u201d Dr. Christopher Bailey, Austin Peay associate professor of musical theatre and voice, said. \u201cThere are thieves, fools, scoundrels, lovers\u2026there\u2019s tap dancing, there\u2019s jazz and everything is scored by a wonderful orchestra.
