Combat veterans \u2013 both men and women \u2013 may make the physical journey successfully back to the states but finding the way home after war \u2013 navigating the pain, the losses and the guilt &#8211; can take years. You can help, though.<\/p>\n<p>Join SAFE: Soldiers and Families Embraced, community leaders and your neighbors on Thursday, November 10th, 2016, to share a meal at the organization\u2019s annual fundraising breakfast, \u201cLighting the Way Home.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_361403\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Soldiers-and-Families-Embraced-to-hold-\u201cLighting-the-Way-Home\u201d-breakfast.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-361403\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-361403\" title=\"Soldiers and Families Embraced retreat for active duty military, veterans and families.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Soldiers-and-Families-Embraced-to-hold-\u201cLighting-the-Way-Home\u201d-breakfast-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"Soldiers and Families Embraced retreat for active duty military, veterans and families.\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-361403\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Soldiers and Families Embraced retreat for active duty military, veterans and families.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->There you\u2019ll hear how the Clarksville community can be a part of helping navigate the invisible wounds of war and guide our combat veterans home to their families.<\/p>\n<p>The breakfast, now in its fifth year, is SAFE\u2019s main fundraiser for the year and is set for 7:30am Thursday, November 10th, at the William O. Beach Civic Hall, in Veterans Plaza.<\/p>\n<p>The event now welcomes more than 150 guests who enjoy a meal together and learn about the struggles facing our military and their families and how the community can help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSAFE now offers more than 300 sessions of counseling a month to active duty military, veterans and families at no cost to the clients,\u201d said Executive Director Jodi McCullah. \u201cWe rely solely upon private and corporate grants and donations to offer the counseling as well as retreats, such as our annual songwriting retreat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Breakfast features an address by Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, who helped lead the fight against possibly devastating cuts to Fort Campbell and whose administration has set into place a number of resources to aid local military families.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, SAFE will honor Senator Mark Green with the annual Community Hero Award, given to a community member who has gone \u201cabove and beyond\u201d for veterans and military families in the area. Says, Senator Green, \u201c&#8221;Our veterans are our greatest national treasure; they are men and women who have and will sacrifice everything for our freedom. There is no service we can render them that is in any respect comparable to their service of us. Being part of Soldiers and Families Embraced is the least we can do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Previous recipients of the award include Phil Harpel, Senior Community Banking office for US Bank, Carol Clark, Executive Assistant to the President at Austin Peay State University, and Col. Ted Crozier, US Army (Ret) and former Clarksville mayor.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the event are $100.00 for individuals or $1000 to sponsor a table.
