\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – The Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance begins its Fall 2016 season with a production of William Inge\u2019s \u201cPicnic.\u201d The play, which runs from September 28th through October 2nd, will be held in the Trahern Theatre on the University campus.<\/p>\n

“Picnic” runs from September 28th-October 2nd at APSU.<\/p><\/div>\n

Taking place over Labor Day weekend in the backyards of two middle-aged widows, Inge\u2019s play explores the hopes and dreams, and even the awakening of teen sexuality, of a small Kansas town when a young drifter passes through looking for a job and catches the attention of two sisters.<\/p>\n

With each sister hoping for something more than their small town lives, what will happen when their worlds are turned upside down by love?<\/p>\n

First performed in 1953, \u201cPicnic\u201d won Inge the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, while also winning the New York Drama Critics\u2019 Circle Award for Best Play of the season. In 1955, \u201cPicnic\u201d was adapted for the screen, and won two Academy Awards, as well as four additional nominations, including Best Movie and Best Picture.<\/p>\n

The curtain rises at 7:30pm for performances on September 28th through October 1st, while the October 2nd performance begins at 2:00pm. Admission for all performances is $10.00 for general admission and $5.00 for students, seniors and military.<\/p>\n
