Carol LeBaron: Life Source<\/strong>

Tennessee artist Carol LeBaron\u2019s fine art textiles transform remembered light to imagery, collecting fragments from both the landscape of her remembered experience and observation of natural forms.<\/p>\n

Taking a Look at Cave Johnson<\/strong>
\nMay 11th \u2013 July 31st<\/p>\n

Take a closer look at the life of Clarksvillian Cave Johnson. Johnson was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1828, and later served as president of the Bank of Tennessee from 1854 to 1860. He was also a close friend and advisor to James K. Polk during his successful presidential campaign.<\/p>\n

This exhibit explores the theme of hunting, fishing, and other outdoor leisure activities in the area with objects from the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center\u2019s permanent collection.<\/p>\n

Flying High Dinner & Auction<\/strong>
\nSaturday, June 4th, 5:00pm at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center<\/p>\n

Flying High is the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center’s preeminent fundraiser of the year, supporting educational and exhibit programming of the Museum. This year’s theme is An Evening in Paris! There is a silent auction at 5:00pm, with dinner at 7:00pm followed by the live auction at 8:30pm.<\/p>\n

Music and dancing concludes the evening. Bid during the live auction for your chance to win a trip to Paris. Tickets to this event are $125.00 for Museum members, and $175.00 for non-members.<\/p>\n

Art & Lunch: Larry Richardson Gallery Talk<\/strong>
\nThursday, June 23rd, 12:15pm<\/p>\n

Artist, naturalist, and writer Larry Richardson discusses his work in the exhibit Cumberland River: An American Legacy. Admission is free.<\/p>\n

Children\u2019s Summer Camp: Explorers\u2019 Camp<\/strong>
\nJuly 12th \u2013 15th. Registration opens June 1st.<\/p>\n

[320right]Explorers\u2019 Camp is a half-day summer camp filled with exciting and educational activities for children ages 7-10. Each day our education staff will provide several exciting activities on a variety of themes combined with tours of the museum. All camp activities are a fun blend of science, engineering, art and history, allowing kids to explore, learn, create, and play!<\/p>\n

Children must be registered in advance to attend Explorers\u2019 Camp. Reserve your child\u2019s spot now before they\u2019re all gone! Registration opens June 1st. Cost is $40.00 for Museum Members and $50.00 for non-members, due at time of registration.<\/p>\n

New this Summer \u2013 \u201cWhat\u2019s in the Big Box?\u201d<\/strong>
\nTuesdays & Thursdays in June; 10:15am \u2013 11:15am and 2:00pm \u2013 3:30pm.<\/p>\n

Join Ms. Sue & Theodore Tiggwelder in the Children\u2019s Art Room for this serendipitous experience! You don\u2019t have to be a child to enjoy this! Drop in at your leisure.<\/p>\n

Here are just a few things that will show up sometime this month:<\/strong> a boomerang, a rock signed by Marty Stuart, a cannon ball, a wind-up hippopotamus, a giant red lizard, the Georgia Big Chicken, Ms. Sue\u2019s baby bracelet, and every time, a book or two from Ms. Sue\u2019s collection of 1,500 picture books! These are all objects you can actually touch!<\/p>\n

\u201cTry This\u201d<\/strong>
\nThe Children\u2019s Art Room is Open Daily!<\/p>\n

\u201cTry This\u201d, a new art experience, will feature such things as making collages, sculpting paper, illustrating a song or poem, comparing how different artists draw trees, and many more. There will be a new \u201cTry This\u201d each week, Tuesday \u2013 Sunday. This experience can be enjoyed by all ages.<\/p>\n

Closings<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center will be closed Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th for our Flying High fundraiser. We will also be closed Sunday, June 19th for Father\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n

\"Customs<\/a>Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.<\/p>\n

With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
