This year\u2019s event was the largest Rivers and Spires to date with the 2010 Festival previously holding the record at 42,073 when the Charlie Daniels Band performed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Festival definitely did what it was supposed to do; bring people downtown, promote the community and offer free family entertainment for all ages. We are very pleased with how the event went this year,\u201d said Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of Visit Clarksville.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_342313\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/2016-Rivers-and-Spires-Day-3-325.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-342313\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-342313\" title=\"2016 Rivers and Spires Festival was the biggest one yet.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/2016-Rivers-and-Spires-Day-3-325-480x320.jpg\" alt=\"2016 Rivers and Spires Festival was the biggest one yet.\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-342313\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2016 Rivers and Spires Festival was the biggest one yet.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->Attendance numbers are calculated through ticket sales, as well as the weight of garbage and recycling collected over the three days. This year, the Festival collected over 12 tons of garbage and over 2 tons of recyclable plastic and aluminum, helping to support the community\u2019s green initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Festival had quite a few winners from the many contests and giveaways throughout the Festival. Sawyer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Children\u2019s Parade<\/strong><br \/>\nBest Float \u2013 Family and Community Education (FCE)<br \/>\nBest Small Group \u2013 Guthrie Schoolhouse Childcare<br \/>\nBest Large Group \u2013 Girl Scout Troop #743<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor\u2019s Volunteer Trophy<\/strong><br \/>\nMost hours worked per student \u2013 MiddleCollege\/APSU<br \/>\nMost students worked \u2013 Northwest High School<\/p>\n<p><strong>The following schools volunteered throughout the Festival:<\/strong><br \/>\nKenwood High School<br \/>\nNortheast High School<br \/>\nClarksville High School<br \/>\nMontgomery Central High School<br \/>\nRossview High School<\/p>\n<p>The community-driven Festival is free every year, largely because of the sponsors, the army of volunteers who donate their time and the support of the city and the county. This year, more than 600 volunteers contributed to the effort with 293 were student volunteers participating for the School Challenge. They helped significantly with inflatables, the children\u2019s parade and mascots in the Family Fun Zone.<\/p>\n<p>Vendors booths were sold out and they came from as far away as Illinois, the Carolinas and Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Festival was a remarkable success this year. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, the volunteers, the city and the county.
