\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – As another academic year nears its end, APSU choral activities celebrates the grand finale of the choral season with the biggest collection of vocal talent to date in the third annual \u201cThe Big Sing.\u201d<\/p>\n

On April 12th at 5:30pm, upwards of 158 singers from Austin Peay State University and Paducah Tilghman High School will join together at the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the University campus in a free performance of a wide range of vocal compositions.<\/p>\n

Austin Peay State University Choirs and Paducah Tilghman High School join for third annual \u201cThe Big Sing\u201d on April 12th.<\/p><\/div>\n

Included in the evening\u2019s schedule will be a composition performed by the APSU Chamber Singers, the premier choral ensemble of the University, as they debut the world premier of \u201cThe Well-Closed Doors,\u201d a song commissioned by APSU and composed by Nashville-based composer Daniel Elder.<\/p>\n

\u201cDaniel writes wonderful music for choirs performed by choirs of all sizes, and we\u2019ll be performing a world-premier composition that he created for us,\u201d Dr. Korre Foster, director of choral activities at APSU, said. \u201cThe composition is inspired by \u2018The Last Invocation,\u2019 a poem from Walt Whitman, and we\u2019ve already begun to learn it for the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Accompanying the Chamber Singers in their performance of \u201cThe Well-Closed Doors\u201d will be pianist, and APSU alumnus, Justin Fitch (\u201915).<\/p>\n

Under the leadership of acclaimed choral director Matthew Hinz, the Paducah Tilghman Concert Choir will arrive on campus that morning and spend the day meeting with APSU students and rehearsing for the evening\u2019s performance. During the evening\u2019s event, the students will join the APSU Chamber Singers and University Choir to create a choral union for a performance of three songs.<\/p>\n

The compositions performed by the choral union include \u201cInvictus,\u201d a song composed by Joshua Rist and based on the William Ernest Henley poem of the same name, as well as the first movement of \u201cGloria\u201d by John Rutter and \u201cJ’entends le Moulin\u201d by Donald Patriquin.<\/p>\n

The performance of \u201cJ\u2019entends le Mouin\u201d will also include a piano portion performed by APSU professor of music, Dr. Anne Glass.<\/p>\n
